I live near the trail. PLEASE NOTE: If you read the signs all along the trail you will see that (a) pedestrians have priority over cyclists and (b) there is a 5 miles per hour speed restriction on cyclists. The trail is designed for everyone to use. It has gone from a quiet track to a major tourist attraction over... More

Easy flat access from Bakewell though the hill is a bit steep. The tea shop at Hassop station is excellent.

The main railway line affords spectacular views along this tight and beautiful valley. Admire man's ingenuity and the views. But to stick to the flat railway line, although easy, misses the best bits. Take the side paths, go round the tunnels and this remarkable valley will reveal more secrets.

Excellent trail on old railway bed with easy access from main roads. Several pay and display car parks on the trail with toilets. We parked at Monsal Head for £4.40 for four hours. The walking or cycling is easy as the surface gravel is in good condition and we'll drained. There are some inclines but nothing too difficult even for... More

This is a family-friendly trail with some great views around Monsal Dale. It can get very busy on the trail (especially Summer weekends) with a mix of cyclists and walkers. If you are on a bike don't expect to travel quickly unless you are very early or late in the day - definitely not a place to set Strava records.... More

I recently went with a group of friends walking on the Monsal Trail and it was superb. Lovely level easy walking and several places to detour to in order to obtain refreshments i.e. Monsal Head, Litton, Little Longstone Keep an eye out for cyclists and horses on the trail, keep out their way and you'll be fine. Recommended.

Very good views, easy walking, easily accessible, very scenic. BUT be aware of the bikers who are doing the 'Tour de Monsal' they wear lycra and ride as fast as they can to beat other posted on line times for riding the trail at stupid speeds. They have to weave in and out of children, parents with prams and dog... More

Access is really easy and it provides a safe environment for all to cycle without concern. There are several drop of points to explore the area further. There are views but they are not always great due to the the tree line interrupting the eye line. A number of pubs were visiting are also very accessible which is a bonus.

We enjoy walking The Monsal Trail midweek when it is less busier choosing circular walks that either begin or end up on the trail
