During the weekend we came to Hollingwood near Chesterfield to have a bit walk around the Chesterfield canal. The day was OK for this time of year and the place was full of people enjoying their coffee/tea and cakes and resting around the Hollingwood Hub. This building was derelict lock house which was rebuilt into community area with room where... More

The walk along Chesterfield canal is very pleasant with a nice little cafe serving food and drinks at Hollingwood. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the local canal both the history and future developments.

The chesterfield canal is full of interest and constitutes easy walking. Volunteers have done amazing work on the canal to rejuvenate it to very high standards, although this is still work in progress. There are two very good cafes that we know of - at Tapton Lock and at the Hub at Staveley. Wild life abounds, despite there being many... More

It's a nice little walk but a bit tight at times with cyclists and alot of dog mess and rubbish. A rather quiet walk but very enjoyable.

Well we took a few hours out of our Spa break to go wander, and a wander we did, we walked an 8 mile round trip along the canal and it is well worth it too, all flat for the walk, and very peaceful too, there are a lot of bikes on the canal path but what else would you... More

Visited the Hub for breakfast on the recommendation of the staff at the campsite we were staying on. After breakfast we then walked the canal as far as Stavely Basin and back. Fascinating to see the work going on to re-join the two sections of the canal. Inspired, we then went to visit more of the canal in Worksop and... More

The volunteers who make up the Chesterfield Canal Trust have created a superb facility out of a derelict and semi-abandoned canal. Ideal as a cycle route from the centre of town and a way to access other trails. Visit and support this astonishing success story and join in the push to open up the last few miles in whatever way... From Tapton lock A pleasant walk on a summer evening or a nice brisk walk in winter. |There is always something of interest to see along the canal bank. Don't forget your camera. You will be surprised what photogenic ducks and creatures there are along the way. A good Hot drink is always welcome when you get back to Tapton... More
