About
Tarkine Trails was established in 2002 by a group of like-minded, passionate individuals, with a focus to provide exposure from the threats to the Tarkine region through tourism. From here the company has evolved to provide multiple unique deep immersion walking experiences, both within the Tarkine’s vast rainforest areas and along its wild coastline. Tarkine Trails is now proudly part of the Trek Tours Australia family, continuing the legacy of offering truly unique and genuine takayna / Tarkine experiences. We feel privileged to continue the important work set by the founders and more recently through Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Protecting the takayna/Tarkine for future generations is our core philosophy. This has remained unchanged, to this very day and has been the driving force and bond for those individuals involved with Tarkine Trails from inception. Tarkine Trails is here to get it right. We are proud to be an ambassador for business, community and the environment. This is what we believe ecotourism should be for anyone with the privilege to operate in an incredible natural environment such as takayna. Tarkine Trails believes that working collaboratively with the north west community and industry will create the strongest outcome for a positive future.

The Tarkine and West Tour with Trek Tasmania was a lovely introduction to this north west corner of Tasmania. Over the six days we were driven through, and walked in, attractive landscapes and forests, saw magnificent water falls, walked through magic temperate rainforests with all their fabulous ferns, mosses, lichen and fungi, as well as along stunning coastlines strewn with fascinating rock formations, kayaked down the river and generally had a great time with a lovely group of people. Mitch and Elena, our wonderful and energetic young guides, were a font of knowledge as they guided us through the activities, ensured that we didn't go hungry, drove very safely, and were good company. They are both enthusiastic Tasmanians and passionate about the environment. The accommodation at all three stop overs, in Stanley, Corinna and Tullah, was great, comfortable and clean.
Coming in to autumn, the fungi we found, in all its various colours and forms, caught our imaginations and came home with us in a difital form - so much fungi, so many photos!
Mitch and Elena, facing unemployment on arrival back in Launceston due to new restrictions on travel, were great ambassadors for Trek Tasmania to the end. Good luck to all of you.
I'm late sixties and travelling alone. Having done 3 trips with this company, I would highly recommend them and their trips to anyone wanting to experience the Australian countryside up close and at a gentle pace. That doesn't mean the climbs were all gentle!

Our family trek with ages ranging from 13 to 77 and the sensational team of Johnny, Jill and Warwick was one of those rare lifetime memories. The guides were attentive to our needs and caring of our well being. The dissemination of their knowledge was such that we didn't experience an overload. The Tarkine itself is both tangible and intangible, mystical and magical. From the moment we entered to forest to when we left there was only 11 people, the forest and sounds of wildlife in the world. To see the forest after rain was the highlight of the trek. It's preservation is imperative. It is a rare gift to see and the solace it brings to the weary soul is immeasurable.

Our trek to the Tarkine with Tarkine Trails was such a wonderful opportunity to reset in this beautiful part of the world. We walked through rainforests to waterfalls, hiked along the coastline, kayaked along the Pieman River and climbed to the top of Mt. Donaldson and Mt. Farrell. Our guides, Zoe and Alina, were professional, caring and knowledgeable, and passed on interesting information about the Tarkine's flora & fauna. We hiked at our own pace and Zoe and Alina were encouraging and clearly explained plans for the day and addressed any concerns from the group. My caffeine needs were also well catered for as they brewed coffee each morning, which I very much appreciated! I highly recommend Tarkine Trails to you as they ensured that our experience was stress free and unforgettable.

We enjoyed an excellent three days trekking out from our Tiger Ridge base camp. Our guides Sange and Johnno focused on our safety, comfort and getting the most out of our Tarkine Wilderness experience. We were also lucky to have fellow trekkers Christine, John and Peter. They were great company.
The Tarkine is a wonderful place with amazing biodiversity that must be protected for science and the enjoyment of future generations

Just completed a 6 day hike through the Tarkine Rainforest with our guides Lish & Kenna. The experience was just phenomenal.
My eyes were opened wide to the importance of treading lightly in this pristine wilderness ecosystem and the need to protect it.
I found this trek physically demanding (60 yrs old) however both Lish & Kenna were always close at hand to offer subtle assistance to those of us who needed it.
We were very fortunate to experience the rainforest in the dry and after a day of rain. The colours just popped following the rain.
The meals were always delicious and hit the spot after 7hrs of climbing up and down through the forest.
Highly recommend this trek and Tarkine Trails.

Hi Prem S
Thank you very much for your kind review of your 6 Day Tarkine Trails Rainforest Expedition.
It is so great to read how you have developed a strong sense of place and connection to the Tarkine through the experience and our knowledgeable guides, Thanks also for your kind words on Alisha and Kenna, 2 of our top guides with years of wilderness guiding experience between them.
As you say this is a true expedition. Full pack. No clear and defined trail and plenty of river and creek crossings that can be a challenge. The terrain experienced on this trek is predominantly made up of natural walking routes and requires professional guiding navigation in a trackless forest wilderness. Having rain after a prolonged dry spell in the northwest will have really made the trip super special!
We look forward to hosting you on another one of our treks in the future.
On behalf of the team, thank you very much for choosing to travel with Tarkine Trails.

The Tarkine Coast Expedition was a phenomenal experience! The 6-day trek was a great way to explore this wild and rugged part of far-west Tasmania. The guides, Holger and Jill, were absolutely fantastic, super knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and amazing cooks! The whole experience was memorable and one I would highly recommend. I can't wait to do another trek with Trek Tasmania, they were brilliant.

Over 4 days we were immersed in the Tarkine rainforest environment, and saw much of its amazing diversity. Our guides Jonny and Zoe shared their knowledge and passion for this ancient region, from the smallest spider to the largest and oldest trees....I can still see the green, smell the rain and the celery top pines, and taste the amazing food! This walk absolutely nailed it for me. Thanks for such an enriching and memorable experience

We took the 6-day Tarkine and The West expedition and loved every minute of it.
The walks were suitably challenging, taking us through varied environments from rocky coastal heath to rainforest and mountains. We were rewarded with stunning views and close-up experiences of this unique habitat.
Our guide, Mitch, was extremely knowledgeable, well prepared and great company. He inspired us to learn about the Tarkine and make the most of our time there.
Our accommodation and meals were just right: clean, comfortable rooms and plenty of good food.
Highly recommended for anyone seeing the Tarkine for the first time and ready to do a few hours' walking each day.

We had a magical time in the Tarkine - finding out all about the forest in the company of the Oracle - Trevor. What a great chap. Our long weekend really sent us into another world and we are so grateful we visited. Thank you to all the team. We camped in secluded glory amongst the trees and it was lovely.
