About
Tarkine Trails was established in 2002 by a group of like-minded, passionate individuals, with a focus to provide exposure from the threats to the Tarkine region through tourism. From here the company has evolved to provide multiple unique deep immersion walking experiences, both within the Tarkine’s vast rainforest areas and along its wild coastline. Tarkine Trails is now proudly part of the Trek Tours Australia family, continuing the legacy of offering truly unique and genuine takayna / Tarkine experiences. We feel privileged to continue the important work set by the founders and more recently through Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Protecting the takayna/Tarkine for future generations is our core philosophy. This has remained unchanged, to this very day and has been the driving force and bond for those individuals involved with Tarkine Trails from inception. Tarkine Trails is here to get it right. We are proud to be an ambassador for business, community and the environment. This is what we believe ecotourism should be for anyone with the privilege to operate in an incredible natural environment such as takayna. Tarkine Trails believes that working collaboratively with the north west community and industry will create the strongest outcome for a positive future.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was an outstanding experience for us & we highly recommend it. The entire trip, from booking to end, was very well organised & prompt communication from the company.
Our guides, Alina & Mitch, were amazing - very knowledgeable about the flora & fauna, & have led groups on this track many times. They kept an eye on our group of 10 at all times, cooked excellent meals, worked very hard & proactively, were very patient, provided stories, and best of all were great fun. And they love doing the trip too. We'd do another trip with the company just because of them! (And are now planning to do so.)
The walk is spectacular, & challenging in parts, you do need to be fit to get up some steep hills, but the views & experience are worth it. Take a decent camera or smartphone. Our group age range was around 55 - 70 & all were fine with the walking, & fortunately all were nice people happy to be doing the trip.
The trip has a good mix of accommodation (no camping) and make sure you read the trip notes. A bonus for us was not having a mobile signal or wifi for 3 days while in Corinna. The half-day kayaking was fun & broke up the walking. We mixed between heath, coast, & rainforest. The birdwatching is excellent too.
Our understanding of the importance of these precious & irreplaceable areas & their wildlife was reinforced, especially as they are continually under threat from exploitation.
When you stop in Stanley on the first night, make sure you visit the little penguins that nest there, and in Corinna, do the short walks nearby. Launceston is a lovely small town & it's ideal to have a few days there to explore it & the walks nearby.
We hired clothing from the company so we didn't have to buy & carry it, & the gear was as-new.

My favourite parts of the trip was the desert and swimming in rivers and/or the ocean every day. And eating after a day's hiking.

Over 4 days we were immersed in the Tarkine rainforest environment, and saw much of its amazing diversity. Our guides Jonny and Zoe shared their knowledge and passion for this ancient region, from the smallest spider to the largest and oldest trees....I can still see the green, smell the rain and the celery top pines, and taste the amazing food! This walk absolutely nailed it for me. Thanks for such an enriching and memorable experience

Our guides, Johnnie and Zoey of Tarkine Trails, led a small group of 8 walkers into diverse, interesting wilderness to experience a truly remote hiking experience. Based at a lodge (in comfortable tents) we had wholesome, delicious food and were warm and dry in between the main spectacle of being exposed to ancient trees, ferns and fungi. Walking was short in distance but big on elevation changes. Special to the trip was guiding passion and experience with the addition of youthful enthusiasm. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Just completed a 6 day hike through the Tarkine Rainforest with our guides Lish & Kenna. The experience was just phenomenal.
My eyes were opened wide to the importance of treading lightly in this pristine wilderness ecosystem and the need to protect it.
I found this trek physically demanding (60 yrs old) however both Lish & Kenna were always close at hand to offer subtle assistance to those of us who needed it.
We were very fortunate to experience the rainforest in the dry and after a day of rain. The colours just popped following the rain.
The meals were always delicious and hit the spot after 7hrs of climbing up and down through the forest.
Highly recommend this trek and Tarkine Trails.

Hi Prem S
Thank you very much for your kind review of your 6 Day Tarkine Trails Rainforest Expedition.
It is so great to read how you have developed a strong sense of place and connection to the Tarkine through the experience and our knowledgeable guides, Thanks also for your kind words on Alisha and Kenna, 2 of our top guides with years of wilderness guiding experience between them.
As you say this is a true expedition. Full pack. No clear and defined trail and plenty of river and creek crossings that can be a challenge. The terrain experienced on this trek is predominantly made up of natural walking routes and requires professional guiding navigation in a trackless forest wilderness. Having rain after a prolonged dry spell in the northwest will have really made the trip super special!
We look forward to hosting you on another one of our treks in the future.
On behalf of the team, thank you very much for choosing to travel with Tarkine Trails.
Best regards,
Nick and the entire Tarkine Trails Team

The Tarkine Coast Expedition was a phenomenal experience! The 6-day trek was a great way to explore this wild and rugged part of far-west Tasmania. The guides, Holger and Jill, were absolutely fantastic, super knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and amazing cooks! The whole experience was memorable and one I would highly recommend. I can't wait to do another trek with Trek Tasmania, they were brilliant.
