We were traveling from Auckland to Sydney on a cruise ship and found that these caves were the handiest to visit as part of a shore excursion with Shore Trips and Tours - they guarantee that you will be back to your ship on time...More

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the glow worms but our experience was affected by some mean person stealing the seat cushion from our motorbike while we were in the caves. Kawiti cannot be held responsible for bad people visiting the caves and we always carry our...More

With a very friendly and entertaining guide we entered the cave together with two other couples into a nice walk with lanterns in our hands. The guide showed us the amazing glow worm “galaxy” and explained details about how these animals live and attract insects....More

You walk in the dark in small groups with lanterns. Turn the lanterns off to see the glow worms on the roof. Different and smaller than Waitomo Caves.

Short 20-minute guided tour through the Kawiti cave. Typical cave formations when the lamps carried by the visitors are lighted. When the lights are extinguished and the glow worms appear it's like magic. It's really a fantastic sight! About 15 stairs at the beginning and...More

Well worth the fee for this privately owned experience - seeing thousands of glow worms and hearing about the history and life in the caves. We got so close to the creatures - amazing!

At $30 each (Google said $20) for a 40 minute tour seems a bit rich. Lovely guide who answered all the questions with a sense of humour. Not that impressive if you have seen the creatures before otherwise a pleasant way to spend some time....More

I took 2 friends from UK to see the Kawiti Caves - a first for all of us. It was fantastic. Our guide gave us a good history of the cave and the importance of the cave to the Ngati Hine tribe. I think our...More

We did the Kawiti Caves Glow Worm tour in November of 2018 as part of an excursion through a cruise ship that we were traveling on while we were in the port at Bay of Islands. It took about 25 minutes to get from the...More

This is the lesser-known glowworm attraction and lies north of Auckland - about 2.5 hours. The other attraction is south, and further away. I liked the fact that the caves were not excessively busy when we went (a Saturday in Nov) and, although people were...More

I need both knees replacing and found it no problem at all. There a few steps and low hanging rocks but nothing too bad. Worth the pain.
