The Paekakaraki Museum is very interesting to visit and the staff are very keen to show the steam locomotives to visitors and to explain their histories and operations and to talk about the regular excursion trains that are operated on the NZ main line.

run mainly by volunteers over a variety of weekend and locations. it's very 1960's but that's part of the attraction. Don't expect anything flash (or speedy for that matter), but just sit back, relax and enjoy the experience. Can give this enough stars.
