About
Casa Santos Lima is a family owned company dedicated to the production, bottling and selling of Portuguese wines. The company is present directly or indirectly in the regions of Lisboa, Algarve, Alentejo, Vinho Verde and Douro. This way and from around 600 hectares of vineyards, it produces wines known for their excellent quality/price ratio and exports around 90% of its total production to close to 50 countries in all 5 continents. Casa Santos Lima is also the largest producer of “Vinho Regional Lisboa” and “DOC Alenquer” and in the past years has been one of the most awarded Portuguese wineries in major national and international wine competitions.

Amazing experience with professional guide. Premium tasting with tour was highlight of the day. Rich history of the place was very interesting. All the tours should make like this one. Store was well priced as well. Way to go Casa Santos Lima -wines!

An excellent vineyard tour and fantastic wines

We (4 adults and a babe in arms) had a delightful tour of the vineyard in a carriage pulled by two horses. Our guide, Nádia, was totally charming and our carriage driver, Rui, was excellent too. I would heartily recommend this slow, relaxing way of seeing the vineyard. Wine-tasting was very good and all wines on sale are very well-priced. We have tried several of the wines from the Lisboa and Alentejo regions and think them all first class. You do need to give 48h notice, which is only reasonable, but Nádia arranged a beautiful sunny day for us and made the wait very worthwhile.

Amazing Private Tour of vineyards and winery

We booked a visit here via email on their website. They got back to us in less than a day and we made a reservation for a buggy tour of the vineyards, tour of the working winery, and a tasting of five reserve wines. Our tour guide was great and we really enjoyed her tour. She selected five wines based on what we told her our tastes were and she was right on. We bought five bottles of wine--three of which we had in our tasting. The wine here is cheaper than at most bottle shops or markets in Lisbon and you get to go home with some fantastic wines. Highly recommended. Make sure you eat lunch before hand, though they do bring you large bowls of nuts and crackers to snack on during your tasting. There was a private company catered event here, so I believe that's an option if you arrange it. The views from the winery are fantastic. We rented a car and made the drive from Lisbon. FYI-The rental car GPS couldn't find the address, because the village is so small. You'll want to use a smartphone, since it's easy to get loss. Other than booking a car, I think a private chauffeured tour is the only way to get there. Totally worth it for us.

Excellent experience with last minute drop-in

We showed up at the winery too close to closing. However, staff was very helpful and organized a five wine tasting. Marta was extremely helpful and made excellent selections for the wines. She helped us pick great wines. If happen to be in Lisbon this is a not to miss destination.

Amazing wines, Fantastic customer service

We dropped in to the vineyard, we had tried one of their wines and really enjoyed it. We didn't have time to do a tour, but the woman at reception was extremely informative and helpful. We went away with 6 wines that I know we are going to really enjoy, fr an amazing price. And some great tips about enjoying the rest of our holiday. Hopefully we will get back for the tour some other day.

A wonderful place to visit

We stopped here on our way to Santa Cruz after reading the wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint. Although we did not have a reservation, the staff accommodated us and provided both a wine tour and tasting. The tour was informative and the grounds, facilities, staff and wine are all excellent. The staff even took our contact information so they could provide a list of local stores near our home where their wine could be purchased. Such a lovely way to spend the afternoon!

The best portuguese winery

Incredible and unforgettable portuguese winery! Great visit with great wine experience! What an incredible cellar! More difficult than having a great wine, is like Casa Santos Lima, that has more than a houndred great wines! If you are near Lisbon you can't miss it! The best of all - wines are reaaly cheap! Try the single visit or go for a vinyards travel, taste their best wines, have a local lunch in Alenquer and visit the village! It's adorable!

A Great Overview of Portuguese Wine

We chose to visit Casa Santos Lima for an example of a large-scale winery in Portugal that has invested in exporting and draws wines from around the country. With vineyards in Douro, Vinho Verde, Alentejo, Lisboa, and Algarve VRs, Casa Santos Lima exports 90% of its product, and I've seen it in the US, under the "Lab" label. The Quinta da Boavista lies just outside Aldeia Galega de Merceana (watch for the white billboard sign). Once there, we watched a moving video to start the tour, highlighting in his own words the owner's journey to growing this business, and then toured the nearby vineyard, winemaking areas, and barrel room. Everything was spotlessly clean and minimalist in its design--and incredible to see stainless tanks holding 100,000 liters, with built-in tanks to 250,000 liters! We wondered at the quality of the wine, but the "Terroir" tasting allayed our fears. Each wine, from a different VR and of a varying style from vinho werde, rose, branco, and tinto, was well made and enjoyable--and at very competitive pricing even for Portugal. We ended up with a case to take home that cost us less than €40. A very hospitable place, and we look forward to watching their continued growth in the future.
