It's best to set out earlier in the morning so you can avoid the heat whilst walking on the road/s to get to the lighthouse. Make sure you wear sunscreen and a hat and/or cover up as when the sun changes position there may be no shade at all on the ugly wide roads on the way back. It should be around 1.5hrs to get there - if you don't get lost like I did! The new wide dirt roads being constructed by a private developer are a shame as I believe the walk used to be via the jungle... which is much more pleasant. There are many and varied routes you can take (thanks to the many new roads being built) and signs are few and far between - which is another shame as they would be helpful! Just be on the lookout for an entry into the jungle path (which I missed and got lost for 1.5hrs in the heat. I was walking back along a big road when I ran into someone who was going there so was lucky to eventually make it!) There is no sign at the beginning to the jungle path, but there was one a few hundred metres into it - which would have been very handy at the start of the path!! You will walk down a long wide road that has a sharp turn left and if you keep going straight ahead - instead of continuing left on the road) and enter the jungle path, you will be at the lighthouse soon! The stairs are steep to the top - it is a lighthouse! - but manageable for most people, I would think. And the view from the top is very rewarding! You can see a few beaches and can also see the high-rise buildings of Sihanoukville in the distance. A tip! If you don't want to do the 3hr return trek on foot, I saw people arrive by quad bikes, which you can hire from Saracen Bay.

We wanted to hike to the lighthouse. On our way we had to cross the massiv construction roads in the jungle several times.
Back one the hiking path out of nowhere, a tree fell down right in front of us. The construction workers do not take care on hikers or the hiking path.
We turned around, as the path was blocked, and went back to Saracen Bay.

Please be careful when walking to the lighthouse!

We were told it was an 90 minute walk, what we didn't know that it was uphill, down dale, rough paths etc, but it was worth every minute. No map, just walk in a straight line and don't turn off. Brilliant views from the top.

I reccomend doing this trip very early in the morning because it gets quite hot. Its around 45min -1hour hike each way, and there is no water to buy on the way, so bring Your own. Also be wary of snakes - there is supposedly a lot around there (though we Didnt see any).

So to get to the lighthouse you have to go to the end of the beach and then you’ll come to a forest from there it’s about an hour walk it is very hilly and Stoney so I wouldn’t recommend for small children and elderly adults.

Upon reach the lighthouse there is a $1 pp charge to climb up but totally worth it views are stunning - as mentioned in previous reviews there is a lot of deforestation going on I don’t necessarily agree with it but don’t let that stop you seeing the view as it’s amazing!!

We were also helped back by a lovely Cambodian family

It's enough of being lazy... Definitely it's a good thing to do to move a wee bit! Boat trip and walk to the lighthouse is a cool thing! Amazing view point for the whole Island plus a klang with a sunset XD

We had to pay one dollar to enter the unsecured premises and tower of the light house.

The amazing views are opening up.

Be ready with your water and suncream for the day hike in advance.

Enjoy!

Great bit of history here on this stunning island. I would highly recommend this trek to everyone if your staying on Saracen bay. The guys at the big easy gave us directions.

Boat Trip to the Lighthouse for the Best Views of the Island of Koh Rong Samloem.
I would recommend to take a boat trip from the village of M'Pai Bay.
The journey takes about 30min, there is a beautiful white sanded beach with nothing on it and a 25min trail to the lighthouse for the adventurous ones.
There is a khmer man keeping it and asking for a small fee to come up.

It's around a 40 minute walk from the beach up, relatively easy however I don't recommend wearing flip flops. In heat they slip, the ground is quite uneven, I stubbed my toes multiple times.

The walk itself is nice however all around is aot of deforestation and building going on. Didn't make me feel so great!

The view is the best from the island however hands-down. You pay a "guard" $1 each to go up.
