Curl Curl beach is my favourite hometown beach. It’s one of Sydney‘s best surfing beaches . The beach is divided into North Curl Curl & South Curl Curl locally known as Curly’s. The northern part also has a lagoon which flows into the ocean & is the safest beach to swim at.
South Curl Curl can get dangerous rips so it’s important to swim between the flags. There is a great little cafe underneath the surf club which serves a delicious breakfast & good coffee ☕️.

When I first read the name Curl Curl, my impression was that it is suggesting the curly waves or something to do with the shape of the beach. Since I’m the kind of person, who always want to know things for sure, I did some research. It was a surprise to learn that the name of this suburb is originated from an Aboriginal idiom, curial curial, that means river of life. I think that was the name of the lagoon, entering to the ocean at Curl Curl, and from the lake got the name the suburb and the beach as well. Since I'm not a linguist, my assumption may be wrong.
This magnificent long stretch of golden sand divided into two beaches, the North-, and the South Curl Curl (Called Curly by the locals) Beach. If I had to choose, I would be in trouble. Both of them has a Rockpool, a life-saving club, and some special attraction. North Curl Curl has the lagoon, that is very popular for families with small kids and dog owners. In contrast, at Curly begins the engaging boardwalk to Freshwater Beach. What decides which part of the beach do you choose, mostly whether you want to swim or surf? The quieter, northern beach with its calmer water is favorable for bathers, while the southern part with its stronger currents and more massive waves is the favorite of surfers. Where can you find a beach that offers such a wide range of entertainment? Even not to mention that I think Curl Curl is one of the most fascinating of the Northern Beaches.

Curl Curl Beach is known for good surf with average 1.6 M waves and stretched 1.2 KM. It has an interesting sea pool to the south although the beach and the area behind is not that attractive or developed. Curl Curl is an aboriginal name meaning river of life. The walk from Manley to Curl Curl along the coast is worth doing with good scenery at most points.

I went with my daughter and her dog to the creek entrance to North Curl Curl Beach. A lovely sandy strip with a dozen dogs and their families all happily playing.

A beautiful long stretch of beach divided into North and South Curl Curl. Both with good spots for children to explore, plus swimming tidal pools and the added benefit of dog friendly areas. A lagoon at North Curl Curl. Watch flag locations. Beware of blue bottles!

The rockpool at South Curl Curl I figure is the best along the northern beaches and I daresay Sydney. Might not look as pretty though! Good amount of water coming in continuously from the ocean so no need to worry about algal blooms 😂

This long stretch of beach is split into South Curl Curl Beach and North Curl Curl Beach with separate surf clubs at each end. There is a rock pool at each end as well as toilet facilities. The beach is a nice place to walk along. South Curl Curl Beach has rougher surf and the beach is closed for swimming as often as it is not. North Curl Curl is better for swimming in the surf and also has a lagoon that sometimes flows into the ocean. Both beaches mainly attract locals and have street parking nearby. There is a nice a very popular café in the surf club building at South Curl Curl which overlooks the beach.
