Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

To see the carved stone structure up close is really special as you can see and touch the markings on the stone that the builders left.
This visit last week marks my 3rd in 9 years and still as interesting and almost magical.
Recommend a visit to Jardin to everyone!

I was surprised by this cathedral...looks so different than the rest, but liked the design....didn’t realize that the upper windows were see through to the other side til the second day...not as old as most but certainly unique and majestic.

After visiting many beautiful churches in Colombia I was tempted to skip going inside this one but I am glad i did not because the interior of the this Basilica is stunning! It has blue hues that set it apart from other churches.

Walking up to the plaza from the bus, you see this impressive church with mountains in the background, it is amazing. The interior is also very interesting and quite different from others with its blue roof and stone walls.

As with every small town or pueblo, the church is the centerpiece of the town. In this case, it is the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with its dark brick façade towering over the plaza and over the people sitting on the square or in the surrounding coffee houses.
This is a traditional Colombians Catholic basilica, built in 1918-1940 in a neo-gothic design and built entirely from hand carved stones quarried in the foothills of Jardin. Father San Juan Nepomuceno Barrera, who started it, allegedly asked that sinners bring stones from the nearby quarry equal in weight to the weight of their sins for its construction.
The inside felt airy and sunny as the rays of the sun peering in through the windows. The arches inside are covered in gold which added to the brightness. Unlike most churches, this one does not have a rib vault.
And like any good church, there were church bells which rang every hour, in fact, every fifteen minutes, starting at 5:00am and going late into the night. This is a Catholic town and everyone needs to be called to mass.

The striped basilica with it's tin towers looks special on the outside and the stripy pattern continues on the inside, giving it a special aura. The ceilings are beautifully painted, creating the idea of being outside.
