Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We parked the car really close by. There you can see "cart tracks." Through a style path full of stones we walked down, over a bridge and a stretch across. Because we had no idea what the terrain looks like, we went back. On display under his tombs. An information board would be appreciated, with a map.

This is a defensive line that was built a hundred years ago that goes across all of Malta. We started walking in Bingemma and ended in Mosta. It is a nice walk most of the time, but sometimes you have to cross roads with a lot of traffic. You have nice views of the Maltese countryside, but most of the time you see urban areas.
There is a lot of trash everywhere. It seems like people just leave the trash anywhere. We were horrified and it destroyed much of the enjoyment.

This is an amazing piece of history that all the family can enjoy if they decide to go for some trekking around the island of Malta. The Victoria lines are actually defence walls built by the British to hinder any foreign attack. These walls cross the entire island and if one has to walk along them he will experience some of the islands best natural wonders. The best time to trek these lines is during Spring or Autumn / Winter.

The best place to see and walk along the Victoria lines are to go to "Our Lady of Itria Chapel" which is located about 2km south of Mgarr.
Here you can look at the "Our Lady of Itria Chapel". Also there are Punic/Roman Burial Tombs (Necropolis) carved into the cliff, you will have to go down the the path after the chapel to reach there. At the location of the chapel you can see the Victoria lines, walk a little further along the road and you will reach a path where you can walk on the wall of the Victoria lines. We walked along the Victoria lines, it is about 4km long a little rough terrain sometimes. It was interesting to see the old wall also many old machine gun posts and other remains from the war. When reaching te main road "Triq Sir Temi Zammit" there is a bus stop called "Dwejra" to be able to get transport back.

If you love hiking, this is something you definitely have to visit. I did one part of the Victoria Lines (VL) from the Itria chapel till Dwerja which takes about 1:30h if you stop regularly to enjoy the views. On both ends there are bus stops (which is exceptional). The nature is so incredibly beautiful there!
But beware, the most beautiful place on the VL are the most difficult to walk on (lots of rocks) so wear good shoes and bring enough water supplies (no stores or whatsoever).

The Victoria Lines (19th century fortifications) are some 12 kilometers long. Some parts are easily accessible and ideal for a short walk whilst others are not easily accessible but they are great for those who love trekking (and even trail running).
The stretch of the Victoria Lines which is the easiest to access, whether using public transport or a private car, is the one at Ġnien il-Għarusa tal-Mosta (public garden) at Tarġa Gap l/o Mosta.
Three popular vantage points are those at il-Kunċizzjoni (l/o Baħrija), Binġemma Gap and the spot now popularly known as ‘Top-of-the world’ (l/o Għargħur).
For those seeking to trek the whole length of the Victoria Lines (allow some 6 hours) ; the western end at Fomm ir-Riħ has to be approached from Mġarr and the eastern end from Madliena / Pembroke.
There are many impressive views when walking the Victoria Lines but they are also a fine example of 19th century fortifications and knowing something about their history will further enhance the experience. Recommended is a 50 page booklet "The Victoria Lines" published in 2021 which costs only 7 euro. Also very relevant is the Facebook page of the NGO 'Friends of the Victoria Lines Trail' .

The defensive lines were constructed in the late 1800's accross the island. We visited the section near Rabat. road side parking and a rough track down to the viaduct accross a gully and up the other side. The walls were interesting and there were good views.

We had been looking forward to the hike along the Victoria Lines. It was a nice hike - about 6 hours from West to east, but annoyingly badly marked. It could be a true attraction for hikers if there was a deskription of the route and signposts to follow.

If you want to leave the busy roads and cities and like to do some hiking and nature with nice views of Malta, visit these two places nearby each other. The caves feature holes cut into the mountain and rocks, dated back to the Phoenician period. The Victorian Lines are a defensive wall crossing Malta dated back to the Middle Ages. If you climb the wall, you have a nice viewpoint across the coastline and a few cities on Malta.

This historical wall stretches west to east accross Malta, through the beautiful countryside. It can be done in a day, but does include some climbing. Stunning views of the north part of the Island

Hey, me and my friend now at madliena fort looking for the start of the trail and we cant find it, can you give us a starting point on google maps maybe? Tnx
Written 27 February 2019
Hey, we usually start with friends from the bus stop Kosta in Madliena and then we go through Madliena village to Top of the World and moving from there.
Since I can’t paste here links, please search in google maps how to get from Kosta bus atom (Swieqi) to Top of the World (Gharghur) And it will show you the direction.
You can pass through the bridge to top of the world or through the valley in the middle, there are stairs
After top of the world you can follow the map from victorialinesmalta website
