About
The Museum is one of the oldest volunteer run Museums, with a collection of over 50 aircraft and engines and many relics. This is the most complete and important collection of Australian built aircraft, with some examples being the oldest surviving ones in the world. One of the biggest attractions is that we allow people to sit in the cockpits of a number of military and civilian aircraft! Souvenirs, merchandise, books and models available in our shop. We welcome group tours and birthday parties, and are open seven days (closed Good Friday, Christmas Day)

Visiting Melbourne, friends suggested that we go to the museum. We had no trouble parking in the adjacent area. There are certainly lots of planes both military and commerical to see and have access to, which is a great plus. The planes are inside and outside. Also plenty of photos and information about the planes, pilots and history. several of the planes have being restored to perfection. Within the museum there is food, drinks and books and other items of interest. Allow at least 2 hours and worth the entry fee - concessions are available.

Popped along to this aviation museum not expecting a lot and found it had more aircraft than I anticipated. It's obviously done with a lot of love by people who are passionate about these things. Some of the aircraft are in large sheds and others out in the grounds. Some can be entered - especially those larger aircraft stored outside. There are useful information boards for everything you are seeing and everything is laid out logically.

There is a well stocked gift shop to buy a memento of your visit on the way out and it would be a great place to take small children given the nature of the displays and the fact you can get into some of the aircraft.

Fantastic site with so much to see and do.
Heaps of aircraft for you to look at and most of them can be climbed up in, in and even sit in the cockpit and play with the controls.
It’s split inside and outside and covers a huge variety of aircraft.
Informative displays as well.
Entry was cheap and the money goes straight back into the site and their restoration projects.

Great way to introduce kids to aeroplanes, there are a number of air crafts you can climb in and sit in the cockpits and pretend to fly. There are other craft you can walk through to experience the history of the older planes. There are a few simulators the kids can play in as well. A number of the craft are outside so plan your visit based on weather. It on,y takes 60-90mins to get through it all depends on how busy it is

My first aviation museum with my family, have been twice since. Very fun to explore the aircraft. Also very good gift shop at the end. All aircraft are in good condition, especially the Beaufighter and the jet at the front of the shed. Staff are nice and very fun to chat with. Good selection of merchandise like the posters and pencil sharpeners.

Always a great day at this museum, the volunteers are all very friendly and knowledgeable and the shop well stocked with aviation books and plastic kits at reasonable prices, great aircraft on display and you have free access to the cockpits and interiors of a lot of the aircraft as well as many other displays, I particularly liked the WW1 items.

This museum is a real hidden gem, a great collection of aircraft with particular significance to Australia's aviation heritage. There a significant aircraft stored indoors and out and there is obvious care and attention to all exhibits with restoration being conducted. this is a must-see for anyone who has even a passing interest in aviation.

I went for a short trip to Moorabbin Airport and discovered one of Melbourne's best kept secrets, the Moorabbin Air Museum is Australia's oldest volunteer aviation musuem and has one of the most interesting and diverse collections of aircraft I have ever seen.

It has bi-planes and engines from the 1930's, aircraft from Australia's inolvement in WW2, including the rare Beaufighter, Wirrawy and Boomerang, but also civil aircraft including airliners like the DC-3 and 4 engined Viscount.

The whole collection and musem display has been created by volunteers working away on the smell of an oily rag for over 40 years.

The museum is more than just a hangar full of aeroplanes, I was enchanted by the stories of women constucting aircraft in the factories, while the menfolk were away at war.

A modest entry fee and enjoyable visit for anyone wanting an outing in close proximatey to the City.
