About
Yarra Bend Park is Melbourne's largest natural bushland park. Enjoy the leafy grounds and abundant wildlife while strolling or biking its many trails. Stop for a picnic, walk your dog or play a round of golf. Hire a canoe at historic Studley Park Boathouse, paddle upstream, and spot flying foxes. Explore the wild river escarpments, open woodlands, formal parklands and sports fields of Yarra Bend Park. Set out on the Dights Falls Walk and discover the site of a former asylum, the river red gum dominated landscape of Galatea Point, Deep Rock and of course, the iconic Dights Falls. Arguably the park's best known feature, the artificial weir was built in the 1840s to provide water to the Ceres Flour Mill, one of the first in Victoria.

Took a family picnic to Bellbird picnic area by the river on Christmas Day. Bats were much more active than usual during the day, but at 38 degrees I'm not surprised. I love this place, especially at dusk when they all fly. Magical.

Yarra Bend Perk is a bend in the Yarra River. Yarra Bend Park has flourishing wildlife and birdlife, even though it is almost in Melbourne's inner suburbs. Fairfield is a place to row a boat. You can go swimming but check on the water quality first. In days gone by, the Yarra was polluted by human waste and factory effluent. It's greatly improved now, but not always perfect.

What makes Yarra Bend park so unique is the many walking trails that “snakes” with the river. It’s easy to navigate and you can walk as long/short as you want. We started our walk opposite Studley Park Boathouse and followed the trail towards Fairfield Park Boathouse - it takes you next to the river, past the flying foxes and back through some lovely scenery. Pretty amazing for a park that is in the midst of the city.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tranquil nature walk just 30min away from Melbourne! Dight Falls provided enough calming effect as it cascades onto the Yarra Bend Park. Continuous walk will take you to a huge farm and Abbotsford Convent. Both delightful surprises!

Popped by Yarra Bend Park for a short walk with friends and their kids.

There is a size able bat population hanging around the Bellbird Picnic area. There's a very convenient car park. Take a walk down the trail to the river and you can't miss them.

We arrived at 11:00am and what seemed like thousands were in the trees! Time it correctly (dusk) and I imagine you'll see them taking off for their nightly feed.

A great place to see the huge colony of Fruit Bats located on the Yarra River near the Bellbird Picnic Area carpark. In their thousands, the bats hang like exotic fruit pods from the majestic gum trees. But there is a warning - don't walk under the trees and look up with your mouth open - you may end up with something you hadn't expected!!

Melbourne is indeed a lucky city and should be so grateful to the early planners for incorporating such a valuable precinct in our city. It goes for miles with history, sporting venues, rivers, creeks, art installations, entertainment venues, boating, eating, solitude, nature and on and on....

Yarra Bend Park is a splendid place for a tranquil stroll along the banks of the Yarra River.
Lovely walks, excellent picnic spots, play grounds for children and a number of public BBQs.
Fairfield Boathouse and Studley Park Boathouse bookend your exploration and both sites offer opportunities for coffee and casual outdoor dining. Rowing boats can be hired at either venue.
Dight's Falls with its fish ladder is interesting and when the river is running high is pretty impressive.
Yarra Bend Public Golf Course is very scenic and clubs can be hired at the Club House. Food and drinks are also available there, as well as Mini Golf.
In summary, Yarra Bend park offers casual strolling, active recreation, picnics and a choice of dining options.
Well worth a visit - this is an outstanding green space right on the edge of the city of Melbourne. Walking distance from Clifton Hill railway station.
