We visited this museum today after first visiting Chateaux Gruyeres next door. This is a very different experience - very serene with classical music playing in the background. It displays a life collection of Buddhas and other Tibetan iconography. We took advantage of a combined ticket when we visited the Chateaux. The building of the Tibet Museum was a former... More

Gruyere is a small fairytale town with cobblestone streets and flowers in summers. It's small and can be seen on foot. Took a hearty meal at the end at one of the many cafes. From the Gruyere train station it is a 10 min walk uphill to get to the town. Although there are buses that also go up from... More

Collector Alain Bordier has renovated an abandoned Catholic church to house his exquisite collection of Buddhas and other Tibetan art ... and has kept the upper half of the main chapel Catholic, with stained glass windows, etc. Lovely fusion. Excellent collection. If you speak French, watch the film by one of the experts from the Guimet Asian arts museum in... More

The presentation of artefacts in the Chapel is lovely. This is a very peaceful place, but is definitely upstaged by its neighbours. I thought it relatively poor value compared to the Giger and the castle. Still worth a visit, good place to refresh after the Giger.

This small museum houses one man's extensive collection of Buddhist statuary, beautifully displayed. The collection is displayed in a small house with attached chapel. The upper level of the chapel retains its Christian stained glass windows and iconography. Classical music plays softly in the background. It's a restful and spiritual place to visit. If you want to learn something about... More

It has a beautiful collection of Buddistic Art. What impresed me the most was the buildings that contains the museum. It has an old Hause with a catholic church. The House of was an old Residence of a catholich priest, who gave the Mass in the church next to it. The Ambiente of this museum is very impresive, you see... More

The museum had nice soothing music and lighting throughout. The temple was a nice place to sit, relax and contemplate. After we paid our entrance fee, we were handed a book and flashlight. You have to follow the book to learn about the artifacts throughout the museum. Information seemed to be lacking on many pieces and it was a lot... More

On the day I visited, the quiet interior, in semi-darkness, made a welcome change from the crowds that swirled around the nearby castle. What makes this Museum unique is that it is located in an old (abandoned?) chapel. The two religions blend in this lovely, peaceful setting. I sat on the balcony and gazed down at the colorful stained glass... More

The Tibaten Museum seems like a hidden treasure. It is remarkably calm and peaceful and has a special aura to it. The artefacts on display are clean and well presented. The staff were lovely and the shop was small but had plenty to choose from. The museum is included in the Swiss Pass and is next to a beautiful chateau... More
