Glacier Express Panoramic Train Round Trip in one Day Private Tour from Luzern

1 review
The Glacier Express train from Chur to Brig is one of the world’s most spectacular train rides, but figuring it out in a new country may be tricky. This experience lets you travel with a guide all the way from your hotel in Lucerne to Chur, and then along the Glacier Express route with a prebooked ticket. Admire the valleys from the panoramic windows, feast on a 3-course lunch, and learn about the region as you ride.

I was fortunate to be able to join a tour that had just started. This is really worth while. There is a really interesting history about the castle, closely related to the Simplon pass. The tour takes you into various historic rooms of this castle and the adjoining home. The guide presented a very interesting story. The reception also had additional expositions about the Simplon tunnel and the aviator Jorge Chávez. Both interesting, and it makes one realize how important and difficult the creation of the tunnel was.

We took a guided tour of the Stockalper Palace - excellent guide and we learnt a great deal. It is amazing that Kaspar Stockalper built this place next to his family home in Brig in the 17th century. (he was by all accounts a very unusual person) I have read it is "baroque" but to me it was very "Italian". And beautiful. Our guide was extremely informative. The group was small - 5 of us - and the visit was in German. She (the guide) spoke perfect Hochdeutsch so easy to understand. (Wouldn't want to do this with a guide who spoke OberWalliserdeutsch!) The gardens and the courtyard are open to all at no charge and the gardens are really magnificent too. There is even a small vineyard. We also walked around the old town of Brig, visited the Kollegium Sanctus Spiritus just uphill from the Palace and took lots of photos. We will be back...

A wonderful piece of Wallis history, just a short walk up the hill from the Bahnhof and town centre. Lovely architecture, bags of history and amazing photo opportunities just a short stroll from the centre. Always a joy to visit.
