An old historic crane which is considered as a landmark of Luneburg! The crane was built in 1797 and was mainly used for saltwork shipping.

The ' ALTER KRAN ' is symbol of the town of Luneburg. It is near a lake and the setting is quite nice. It is very close to St. Nicholas church. It makes a nice photo.

A visit to the old crane is worthwhile. It tells a piece of history of Lüneburg. The crane can also be inspected inside, but it is not absolutely necessary.

This area around the “alter kran” is a must to see when you are visiting Lüneburg Just walk around and look at the old houses or enjoy a cup of coffee or dinner at some of all restaurants in the area

Old craine in the middle of old town. Surrounded by canals, restaurants and stores. Very quaint part of town that reminded me of a village in the Netherlands. Great photo opportunity!

Although there is little to see apart from this crane, the location is evocative and the water and restaurants and weeping willow trees are very attractive.
