My cousins and I took the ferry from Kelheim, down the Danube River gorge to visit the Abbey and Monastery. It was about an hour long boat ride. There is food and beverage service on the ferry, but feel free to bring your own snacks....More

There is a lady that gives a great tour of the church. Don't miss it. It is well worth the visit to the Abbey. Stop for a beer and a bite in the courtyard.

Stayed in Kelheim and completed a nice circular 12 mile walk over to the Monsastery, on a day where it never stopped raining. Definitely worth the effort, beautiful place with a lot of history and character, good food and great beers. Lots of groups and...More

The most beautiful site yet in Bavaria. Not the man made Abbey or the beer but what God made, the beautiful Danube River Gorge, the rock formations, the blue water, the trees, the peace floating slowly down the river. The Abbey was lovely but too...More

We took the river boat from Kelheim to Weltenburg Abbey and enjoyed the leisurely cruise down the Danube and through the Gorge which took about 45 minutes. The monks certainly knew how to pick the best spot when they chose to build on the banks...More

A beautiful monastery set right on the Danube River, so during the spring/summer months it's a great place to visit! They also make great beer so you can sit in their biergarten & enjoy the views. Then when you're done you can get on a...More

We have been to the Monastery several times. The food is delicious and the setting is so peaceful. I would highly recommend the boat ride from Kelheim down to the monastery. It is a beautiful ride any time of year. (When it's open)

Lovely setting in the old abbey for a brew pub. Took a ferry ride from Regensburg to this abbey. Was a picturesque ride with great views, and the St. Georg church was very different from other abbey churches.

Rode a tour boat about 2 miles down Danube to site of the Abbey. Very beautiful approach. The abbey itself was very ornate and interesting. Served beer brewed at the abbey with pretzels. Guided tour so definitely needed more time to explore.

The boats are not small, most of their boats take 500-600 people. They appear to have a 150 person boat too, but I've never seen that. Also travelling on the river it is normally a relatively smooth ride.
