This is a major feature of Bamberg; I took a 2 hour cruise on the Regnitz and on a section of the Main-Donau Kanal. Good photo opportunities, and reasonably priced refreshments on board.

We boarded the MS Sprit in Amsterdam and, due to low water on the Danube, were moved to the MS Treasures on the Danube by bus. What a trip!!! Saling the Lorelei Valley was great and the excursions on land were great! The bus trip...More

We took a Scenic River Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. This would not have been possible before the completion of the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal in 1992. The canal is located entirely in Bavaria, Germany, connecting the Main and the Danube rivers. Running from Bamberg via Nuremberg...More

Twice as long as the Panama canal. Started in 1962 and finished in 1992. Cutting through Bavaria with beautiful vistas, castles and towns. Dropping 574 feet from the Danube as we progressed from Budapest to Amsterdam the locks and experience was great. Highly recommended.

One of the highlights of a cruise on the Rhine/Danube is the experience of passing through all the locks. It was originally a vision of the great Charlemagne to link these two rivers and is amazing to think that he had such vision. While some...More

Expectations River cruising focuses on the voyage of exploring foreign cities and their historic sights rather than activities found on an ocean-based ship. If you have never experienced a river cruise it is very different from ocean-based travel. The vessels are much smaller – there...More

Rhine-Main-Danube Canal is 171km, 16 locks and a 1,200 year old dream of Charlemagne. Charlemagne contemplated connecting the Rhine, Main and Danube so he could travel his long boat from the North Sea to the Black Sea. In 1992 the Main-Daube Canal was completed. Its...More

The river cruise is worth every cent and ideal for seeing and experiencing the locks and canals. I cannot see any other way of doing it to be honest
