This is an experience you should not miss. The display is simply amazing and you ca spend a whole day here and still not see everything. There are buildings, displays, machinery, and memorabilia. It is beautifully maintained with a beautiful garden.

Great displays with lots to see, it took about 3 hours to see everything. The volunteers are fantastic, demonstrating their skills that are no longer used. Definitely worth a visit.

The size of the display and number of retained buildings with heritage built in. Along the way comprehensive displays of dolls, wedding dresses, fire engines, woodworking tools, bullet making tools, corn husking, sewing machines, firework making tools, the list is very long and interesting.

Not really a museum person but was invited by friends to visit this museum. Wow......the variety of items displayed from nic naks, household items of yesteryear, furniture, clothing, machinery, old TV,s, old building materials/methods of construction and the list goes on! It was a true window to the hardships early settlers endured to settle the area. No internet here!!!!!!! I feel very priveleged to have watched the demonstration of blacksmithing by Harold Collins who is obviously a master of his trade. He is in his mid 80's and still volunteering his time and effort for the benefit of others........thanks Harold, to you and the other volunteers. I cannot recommend this facility highly enough.........don't "skip" it...........it will be your loss!

A great experience to see all the different exhibits within the museum. In my opinion the best exhibit is the school. The staff who work at the museum are even better!
Question:
During my visit at the museum I was given an item that involved a dollar bill with a small hole as well as text that asked to fit a 50cent coin through the small hole. After various attempts I was unable to complete this task. During my time a staff who is supposedly a magician was not present. I wanted to ask if you can tell me how to complete this task?

We really appreciate your review and the 5 Stars. The actual words should have been " Can you push a 50 cent piece through the hole" To do this, you place a 50c piece on the table, take the dollar bill and place over it, then using a pen or pencil poked through the hole, push the 50c cent piece around the table. I trust this answers your question. Regards Brian

More stuff than I have ever seen before at a social history museum. My favourite was the re-creation of a schoolhouse of 1891.

You could spend a good few hours taking a walk through time here. There is so much to see and on Sundays, there is working displays of a blacksmith at work and other such things. We were pleasantly surprised at how big this museum is. Lots of things to look at and ponder on. The workers are very welcoming and pleasant. Stop by next time your in Harvey Bay.

This place was the highlight of our Hervey Bay trip, even over whale watching. We’re huge history nerds and the historical village delivered. So many amazing photos and artefacts from years gone by (some too recent, making me feel old! Haha). We had such an amazing afternoon here and don’t even get me started on the volunteers! They were an absolute delight to be around. We would highly recommend a visit here and will be telling everyone who will listen to add this to their to-do list whilst in Hervey Bay!
