Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was there during a ski week when the weather wasn't the best for skiing.
This church was the right place to visit.
Not traditional and really beautiful inside.
Just take a look at the pictures.

Amazing church in an otherwise architecturally drab ski village. Also lovely and peaceful place for prayer, quiet or meditation. Well worth a visit if want to get some space.

There is a movie at the entrance of the, telling you the history of a Dutch priest who started the plan. And the church is open for a quit visit or burning a candle for your beloved. The glass windows are telling a lot of the story of Jesus by a local artist. Also the impressive organ is used for a weekly organ concert on thursday evening.

This church is one of the finest examples of modern architecture. A pure delight to the eye and to the ear should you stay to listen to the organist. A must visit should you be in Alpe d Huez.

Notre Dame des Neiges is the testimony of the life of a Dutch priest, Father Jaap Reuten. He dedicated his life to the construction of this church from the early 60s and for many years, fighting a lot of skepticism to raise funds to reach his goal.
The church was designed by architect Jean Marol and first delivered in 1969 in a still very basic form (bare concrete floor, etc.) It then took decades to achieve.
From outside, it has the uninspiring shape of a tent with a copper roof. But do get in, it is free! The wooden roof is wonderful, the choir is an unusual concrete cylinder and it hosts a fantastic organ in the shape of a human hand. There are also stained glass windows by a renowned artist, Arcabas.
During the winter season (and also in July and August), each Thursday, is held a concert of classical music, during which for a moderate €10 fee, you will enjoy the sound of the organ and the beautifully lit woodwork of the roof.

A stunning example of how modern concrete structures can be really effective when the architect has imagination. The whole concept is fascinating and it’s execution superb. Check out the acoustic by attending one of their organ recitals, given on Thursday evenings during the ski season.

From the outside this church looks in need of a small amount of tlc. Inside everything changes.
The entrance leads you in behind the altar so there is a slow reveal of the building. A central, glass topped concrete tube has been constructed with a beautiful, hand shaped organ at its core. The simple altar is placed in front of the organ.
Around the perimeter of the wooden roof is a series of attractive stained glass windows.
Even if you are not religious it is worth a visit as a building and a beautiful space.
