Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were looking for a short hike so we chose to walk to the Calanque de Port-Miao. It was an amazing way to spend our morning. This meant walking about 25 minutes from the centre of town to the beginning of the trail, the scenic viewpoint for the Calanque de Port-Miao. We used Google Maps to get us to this spot (look for the camera icon).

On the way, we enjoyed seeing the neighbourhood homes and gardens. From the scenic viewpoint, we walked along a wide trail beside the calanque, soaking up every bit of the scenery – the cliffs on the right and the boats in the calanque on the left. We went down the path to the Port-Miao Marina before heading back to town. On our way back, we stopped at Plage du Bestouan and had a tasty panini at a tiny little takeout place, Au Petit Buffet.

The calanques - limestone fjords - are an attraction in this part of France. For those who do not wish to embark on a major exploration of the calanques, I recommend this location: it is now a marina as well. The walk there is very nice in terms of sights and weather (maybe only in September?).
While some would prefer a pristine natural view of a calanque, I think the boats present here add some colour to the scene. Now if you do *not* wish to get down to the water level, then bring a camera with a good zoom or a pair of binoculars-then you can see how clear the water is! This will also save you time if you only want to do a half day tour.

If you come from Marseille by bus, a one-way trip including walking would take close to 3 hours factoring in time for getting directions and bus timings. First, study the bus schedule of the Marcouline line M08 and decide when you wish to return. As of writing, there is a long gap between the noon and evening buses. Also, print out a map of Cassis with Port Miou in it.
In Marseille as you exit the Castellane metro station, try asking the locals for where is the bus that leaves for Cassis - it shares a stop with the local bus. Unfortunately the metro staff are not very informed about this but I remember having to cross one road (Boulevard Baille?) after exiting the metro station.
As you enjoy the coastal ride, the bus halts at the Gendarmerie stop in Cassis. Go towards the roundabout and turn right into Rue de la Ciotat and the police station (Gendarmerie)- will be on your right. This will lead you into the picturesque Cassis town center.
Head west and take a pretty - but uphill - coastal walk which leads you past Plage (Beach) Bestouan and gets on to Avenue des Calanques. Look for the La Presqu'ile (the peninsula) signs directing you, and note this road takes you to the top of the calanque.
After you're done, on the way back, grab a bite at any of the shops in town before you catch the bus. I liked the freshly made crepes!

Bon voyage :-)

We did not take a tour of the Calanques but instead decided to walk from the town of Cassis to the nearest Calanque, which is at Port-Miou. The walk was a little tiring but gave us an opportunity to see the residential area just outside of the center of Cassis and was a beautiful stroll. However, the real beauty was seeing the boats moored along the dock at Port-Miou. What a sight! The way the waterway is carved out of the surrounding rock is amazing. You can walk down to the docks and see the boats and also walk to the end of the dock and up the hillside to get a beautiful view of the entry into Port-Miou. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk and seeing Port-Miou.

Dear pet owners/ parents. Don't come here with your dog or small children i Jan- Feb. The city of Cassis should take responsability and prevent the pine trees from being infested, there are well-known methods to prevent the trees from getting these caterpillars and if you want to welcome tourists also this time of the year, there is no other way. We fled the place as the caterpillars were all over!

If you visit Cassis and do not walk to the Calanque de Port-Miou, you will not have experienced what this area is all about. Why get jammed onto a crowded tourist boat that will take you there if you can walk about 30 minutes to reach this Calanque and take your time to enjoy the most incredible view. The deep blue azur blue of the crystal clear water, the sailboats, the cliffs, you will never forget and never regret this. The Tourist Office located in the harbor (you cannot miss the building with all the flags on top) has maps of Cassis with instructions how to reach Calanque de Port-Miou

We chose the discovery route of approximately 1 hour, which was enough for me. Some gentle up hills are involved, but nothing too strenuous. ...the views are worth it!

We hiked the trail from Cassis to Port Miou, it was a fairly easy walk, and beautiful views across this first calanque.

In order to get to Calanque de Port Miou, we parked the car in Cassis, in the parking lot where the hike starts (rather expensive: 8 euro!). It was an easy hike to get to Port Miou, and from there we continued to Calanque de Port Pin, and then to Calanque d'En Vau. The way back was a little bit more difficult, since it was up hill, and we were tired, but the view was splendid, and it was worth it. Calanque de Port Miou is the first, and probably the longest of the three. There are no beaches there, just boats, and the water with a deep blue or sometimes turquoise color.

We started our adventure at Calanque de Port-Miou after parking along the street and then walking down the path to the beginning of the trail. There is a level path along this first Calanque, the end filled with boats. The path then goes up and becomes a little rugged to Calanque de Port-Pin and Calanque d'En-Vau. Colorful and beautiful to look at from above and from their beaches. Warning, the rocky hike from Port-Pin to En-Vau includes some tricky sections. We also enjoyed watching climbers on the rock walls.

This Calanque is hard to get to, but worth the trip! Be forewarned that park of the hike is a VERY steep pitch. You will need to use your hands and feet on the way down and on the way back up. The only other way to access this are is by boat. If you want to bring food (which I suggest), use a back pack!
