Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a narrow medieval street with cobbles and steps. There are food shops, trinket outlets and some hotels. The hotels may have a terrace at the back where you can eat or drink. You will travel through this street on your way to the abbey.

La Grande Rue is the main shopping street in the village at the base of Mont St Michel. Lots of nice shops and restaurants. Good place to chill before or after visiting the Abbey.

The Grande Rue is basically the only path up to the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel (you can bypass it by walking around on the ramparts but the Rue is the simplest way). It's historic and the street itself feels medieval with some parts that probably haven't changed in centuries. It is also a tourist trap, crowded with a lot of people and touristy shops, as well as some hotels and restaurants. We didn't mind the experience, and enjoyed ducking into a few shops to see what unique (or not so unique) souvenirs they had for sale, as well as grabbing some quick pizza for lunch. Overall it's hard to miss if you want to visit the abbey, and it was an interesting experience.

Small busy pedestrian streets and stairs while coming down from the Abbey. Enjoy hanging out. Be careful with all the tourist traps in the souvenir shops

Great historic buildings and architecture. This is one of two ways to get to the Abbey. The little shops along the way have generally the same tourist stuff. Also it was crowded during a pandemic in the low season. I couldn’t imagine the chaos during the summer. Also stayed at one of the hotels on the island. Probably not worth it except then you could so someone exploring without the crowds.

Wonderful to see all of the original buildings intact. It is all very well preserved and very pretty with lots of small shops and also lots of variety for food stops.

This is the only street leading up to the Abbey which is an absolute must for any visitor. The Abbey is closed at night of course, so you will have to walk this street during the day in order to visit it. That walk is similar to entering the stadium for a Champions League match or rock concert, even during the pandemic.
For a much more delightful and almost mystic visit come again at night, after dark when there're only few people. See the difference in my pics (for the day pic I even waited some time to clear).

Main street that crosses the Mont on the way to the Abbey. During the day until 6 pm it is truly unbearable with the thousands of tourists walking up and down.
At nightfall, it completely changes its appearance and becomes a beautiful medieval street. Attention if you want to dine in Mont, most of the restaurants are closed for dinner.

Great afternoon visiting the Mont, its "ruelles" and the fortifications. Really cool place, but expect to be surrounded by people all the time. Tiny streets, people all around you, and constant sound. Have to go at least one, but will on return if taking other people.

A great stroll which sums up the atmosphere of Mont Saint Michel. We were lucky to be there early (we took the second shuttle bus of the day!) and the street is practically empty. It was crowded when we left at 13:00!
