The temporary exhibition was closed (they were preparing a new one). The permanent collection seems to havent changed for the last 30 years. It could use some refurbishment. Some new layer of paint on the walls. Those tiles on the floor give you the feeling that you are in a swimming pool

Much is made of the Musee d'Art Moderne having one of the largest collections of modern art in Europe. Outside, in grounds that are freely accessible, there are a small number of sculptures, including one notable example by Picasso. Inside, you can either pay to see just the permanent collections, or for a few euros more, to see a temporary... More

I went on my own midweek in October and was the only visitor until joined by one couple. The collections are certainly good enough to make a visit worthwhile, even though the Modiglianis and Van Dongens were on loan elsewhere. By way of compensation there was a special exhibition of work by the living Belgian Artist Luc Tymans. Not many... More

There's a reasonable selection of modern art including a couple of picasso's. I liked the sculptures outside but didn't enjoy the art brut section. Toilets were really good :-)

We’re not a big fan of modern arts but drove by Lille on our way to Bruges. It made a nice stop-over. There are about a dozen big sculptures outdoor, including a piece by Picasso. You can stroll around the nice area for free. Even non-enthusiasts like us enjoyed a brief stop there.

We came here with our children, 5 & 8. We was followed the whole time by security and made to feel extremely unwelcome. Maybe they could have a children's activity to do whilst going round or maybe they just don't embrace families. It is such a shame as it is a great gallery but we will stick to the Tate... More

We went for the Modigliani exhibition in June. The queuing and ticketing system was bizarrely confusing and incomprehensible. Once in, the exhibition was far too crowded to the point where it was difficult to view without people getting in the way. The permanent displays were by contrast quiet and interesting. Getting there by public transport is not straightforward especially when... More

We went to see the Modigliani exhibit, which was nice. We had bought tickets online for a certain time slot and had expected the number of people inside to be limited by the space available. No such thing. In fact there was a crowd of people waiting outside (in the rain) without tickets, and it was so crowded inside that... More

Visited the Modigliani exhibition whilst in Lille. Not a huge fan of Modigliani but appreciated the curation of the displays, the opportunity to see his work 'in the flesh'. Aso enjoyed looking at the other areas of the gallery. The sculptures in the grounds include a Picasso. Certainly an interesting and attractive place.

At weekends you can book a ticket and shuttle bus from the tourist office to the Modigliani exhibition and avoid the queue for tickets and the difficulties of getting there by public transport. The Modigliani exhibit is great but the remainder of the museum is fairly limited and can be covered in an hour both inside and outside in the... More
