Been in Boulogne-sur-Mer before but didn’t discover this gem then. Amazing how the frescos, ceiling/wall paintings were restored in their greatness.

This crypt is said to be the largest in northern France. The various spaces are filled with museum pieces, mostly religious in nature. One of the spaces is dedicated to a Peruvian freedom fighter. The ceilings are painted very nicely. Some of these paintings are...More

We have visited the church many times, but this was our first visit to the crypt. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours and to get lost! Excellent history.

When entering I expected a small place to visit in 5 minutes. Not at all. The crypt extends all the way under the basilica. Respect for the archeologists and how everything is presented from Roman times till recently!

although old with history, most of what is on show is little more than 100 years old, I think this is quite a new attraction and would expect to get better with time

The crypt is extraordinary. Used as a burial ground for several centuries it has been excavated and is now an amazing example of the skills possessed by our forbears. It is well worth a visit, the artefacts on display are breathtaking.

We took our time wandering underground, and became familiar with local legends including the Madonna on the Ship. The lighting and effects were nicely done, and there was good information at hand in both French and English. For those interested in sculpture, art and history,...More
