Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came from Lille Christmas Market where we stayed. That was great.
We went to Arras on our way home and was pleasantly surprised how lovely Arras centre is and the market is huge and lots of space
We bought a few Christmas things but were disappointed with food from the stalls to take home
The French local cured sausages we bought were terrible and were only good to use as a Baton as they were solid and too old to use - all went in the bin
The cheese we bought (Morbier) was just okay but not as good as same type we buy in UK supermarket and cost 50% more. also once they cut a piece for you, you have to buy it - or they start being intimidating and nasty
We would go again but wouldnt buy any fresh food or produce as they are just there to Con the Tourists

During the day, this great square is marred by the fact that it is used as a car park. Makes what would otherwise be a great civix square quite unsightly. A good example of BAD decision making by urban planners. Fortunately, at night the cars mostly have disappeared, and the square is brightly lit. So feels like a different place altogether!

The Grand Place is the larger of the two main squares in Arras and its sheer size, surrounded by all the stunning colonnaded Flemish style houses is amazing, and has a great car park – which is rare in a medieval city.

The houses of the Grand Place and Place des Héros have two underground passages. During the bombardments of 1944, they were used as a shelter and as a medical centre. This giant network of underground passages (also called “Boves”) is open to visitors through the Tourist Office on the ground floor of the Hôtel de Ville.

At Christmas this square is pedestrianised to hold one of the biggest Christmas Markets in France with over 90 stalls, a skating rink and carousel.

Walk through from here into the Place des Héros, you may be lucky to catch one of the morning markets held there. This is where most of the restaurants are situated with outside seating to take in the magnificent scenery and the Belfry of the Hôtel de Ville.

Such an interesting place to visit. We love France and always try to visit Arras while we are there. Excellent restaurants and cafes in the Grand Place with its picturesque buildings. Sit with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and watch the world go by!

One of two fabulous squares in Arras, mostly rebuilt following their destruction during the war. Hard to comprehend that the buildings aren't actually that old. A wonderful place for wandering, having a drink, lunch or dinner, exploring off the few side streets.
There was no market when we visited, but I can imagine the atmosphere with a market, especially at Christmas.

I booked ages ago to stay at the Ibis hotel, just off Grand Place, but we had no idea it would be such a big event. It takes about an hour from Calais and we drive without any hassle to the underground car park at Grand Place. The hotel is one minute off the square and serves a brilliant breakfast as well as being super cheap.
The squares are all decorated fabulously. Different themes in each square, with Christmas carols playing from loudspeakers all around. Our son loved the ice world and the sledge ride. It was all great. Lots of food and drinks places as well as slots of bars and restaurants. There was a little champagne bar which I also quite liked. Great place, so much going on.

Returned to Arras to enjoy the lovely Christmas Market - it's raining again!. As well as the usual Christmas tat, there is plenty of local artisanal produce on offer.

Lots of lovely lights, a big wheel and an ice rink. What more could you want? They even have sugar craft baby Jesus for only 1 Euro!

Steeped in history with beautiful architecture and a fantastic base for touring the Western Front. Restaurants and bars abound serving all tastes and budgets - parking can get interesting at times.

Not everyone would enjoy being surrounded by buildings as relaxing but I enjoyed the selection of restaurants/bars in the area and was happy to have a drink or two while watching everyone else.

A wonderful place to sit outside on the huge square watching the people go by and soaking in the atmosphere. Hard to beleive that the pople of Arras rebuilt their town brick by brick after the first world war
