Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This cathedral looks down on the mooring for the canal boat family. We are fortunate to hear the lovely bells ringing and the sun setting on the gold cross on the end of the roof. Gothic and the prose of the city of Chalons em Champagne who gave her sons to a thankless war. Stunning building worth a visit any time. Moving Bastille ceremony and D day.

It is the cathedral although it may not seem like it since neither its situation nor its location makes it seem like it is. The ambulatory and the left bell tower are the oldest parts. The nave from the 15th-16th century and the doorway at the foot, in a classicist baroque, from the 17th century.

Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Châlons is almost as large as the coronation cathedral in Reims. It was not touched by the great wars. . It has several very remarkable windows and organs as well as very ancient baptismal funt. The treasury has several unique objects on display. During restoration original paving from the earliest basilique was discovered and can now been seen.

This cathedral church has been heavily restored, and is not of particular interest to see. Some of the glass is worthwhile.
The timekeeping of opening the doors is a bit dodgy - don’t cut it too fine.
The several war memorials, including some post the Second World War, are moving. They are on the north, between the cathedral and the street.

This is one of three main churches in the small town of Chalons. It looks very interesting from the outside but sadly the door was locked even though our visit was early afternoon.

We tried to visit, pushed the door very hard, tried to find the opening hours, asked information at the tourist office, but that all didn't help. The doors were closed and stayed closed. Sadly it was no Saint-Etienne for us.

This cathedral doesn't have the wow factor of Reims or Amiens but is well worth a visit. There is some wonderful stained glass and interesting architecture. It was empty when we visited so very peaceful and relaxing.

A great Gothic cathedral dating back to the first half of the 12th century with some stained glass windows from the same times. Lots of engraved tombstones imbedded in the floor. We entered thru the north facade door as it was the only one open and around 10 am on a weekday we were the only ones in there. The north side plaza has a memorial to the local soldiers fallen in French wars.

It’s hard to compare, but after Reims or Laon Cathedrals, this Cathedral is not as impressive. Still worth to visit.

When is the cathedral open - during the week? Just on Sunday?
