We are travelling by bike and stopped to visit the museum. After locking the bikes outside we asked to the local mediateque to leave our bags there, since in the museum is not possible to enter with bags but they don't offer any lockers. The woman selling tickets has been very unpolite and rude with us since the beginning and... More

A surprise visit as we got lost and ended up in Port Louis and not Lorient, where we found this gem of a musum. Fascinating stories, models and maps in every room and a vivid description of how Lorient, the gateway to the East became so important. The baby elephant is sweet and heart rending ! We visited this museum at the suggestion of a friend who lives in Lorient. We were told that we could not understand Lorient if we had not seen this museum. It was a wonderful museum. With our guide, we took a trip through the history of the French Compagnie des Indes. It was a great ‘geographical’ trip which took us... More

The museums of spice and sea rescue were wonderful, as were the ramparts of the citadel overlooking the harbour area of Lorient. The beach was a bit of a hidden treasure at Port Louis and the memorial garden to the resitance movement during WW2 was very moving.

This museum is in the sweet little town of Port Louis, just across the bay from Lorient. No better way to visit is to take the regular, every half hour, boat bus from Lorient acroos the bay. For the price of a bus ticket, you enter Port Louis by boat and then stroll to this impressive Vauban fortress and its... More

Port Louis is worth a visit if you are visiting Brittany. There is plenty of free parking between the town and the sandy beach which is accessed through the old city wall. There are several restaurants and cafes in the town, which is within easy walking distance of the beach and The Museum. There is a small childrens' play area... More
