We have been to several train museums and this one rivals that at York. The dim lighting allowed special effects like locomotive lights on and glowing table lamps in luxury dining cars, which helped establish a mood. There were sound effect speakers here and there...More

Railway heaven. Even if you have little or no interest in trains you cannot help but be hugely impressed by this museum. Like the Schlumpf collection of cars near by, this is well laid out and focuses entirely on its subject.

The sheer size of this museum is impressive. The exhibits, too, are extraordinary in numbers and historical significance. Particular congratulations to SNCF, whose engineers must have spent decades restoring so many pieces of France's history to working order. Someone had a mania for collecting stuff...More

I am not really a railway enthusiast, more of a "casual" lover of steam trains & history, but I absolutely loved this railway museum on the outskirts of Mulhouse, in north-east France. The museum consists of two halls. The first is quite dark but I...More

I wanted to take a short break from the Christmas markets of Strasbourg - nothing wrong with them - just a change. So I chose the Cite du Train outside Mulhouse ('Moolooze'!). A short trip on the TER and then catch the No.3 tram to...More
