Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our visit to Capital Wines turned out to be a wonderful way to enjoy the company of friends - just two of them - with the easing of restrictions after the Coronavirus period. The four of us enjoyed the Epicurean Tasting, where we each had tasting plates of pumpkin soup, prosciutto bruschetta, prawn and chorizo salad and duck bao teamed with tasting glasses of Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Pinot Noir. We finished with desserts - chocolate brownies and lemon cake. The food was delicious and the wines, from Kosciuszko winery in Tumbarumba as well as Capital Wines own vineyards in Murrumbateman, were perfect companions to the food. The service was excellent. We bought a couple of bottles of the Capital Ambassador Tempranillo to take home.

I went with friends on the weekend and had the Epicurean tasting menu with matched wines. Everything about it was good. All four courses were great, and my vegetarian substitutions were no problem and very tasty. Matched wines were great, our table was in the gallery area which had a nice ambience and the staff were lovely. It was the kind of experience you can pay a lot more for. I hadn't been here before but will definitely be back.

This is Canberra Wine Week, so I visited Capital Wines in Hall and was greeted by the winemaker himself, who provided samples of several different wines for me to try. I really enjoyed the experience and highly recommend a stop here for anyone interested in wine. They are open on the weekends for tastings and have a food/wine pairing. The winemaker, Andrew McEwin, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We chatted about corks versus screw tops, oak and other assorted issues raised by my questions. The rest of the staff seemed nice as well. They have a range of vintages, all reasonably priced. I intend to return, and if I were a local, I would surely join their cellar club.

Visited Capital Wines at the end of a day of wine tasting around the Canberra district. Very pleasantly surprised by this out of the way gem. Particular highlights were the Ministry Series Merlot and Kyeema Chardonnay Viognier. Distinctive both as Canberra wines and among all the wines I’ve tasted in Australia, I’d highly recommend a detour!

OK, all of the wines are great, but you should really try the Kyeema Vineyard range. A little more expensive, but great value.

No atmosphere. We wanted lunch and both options we picked, they were out of it. Soup and pizza. Wouldn't return.

We need to emphasize that we are first and foremost the Capital Wines Cellar Door so our core focus is presenting our wines in the best possible light. Despite our village location, we are not a restaurant and the food we present is aimed at complementing our wines in the Cellar Door. We are also are an Art Gallery which certainly adds to the atmosphere of our Cellar Door and the Village of Hall. We have great neighbours who offer excellent food, 1882 Bar and Grill, Kynefin Café and Daughters of Hall Café, all have interesting menus. In our case, if we have been busy, we do occasionally run out of some items on our menu, but we always have great wine available for tasting and purchase.

We had friends visiting from Newcastle for a few days, and on a whim we called in here on our way back home to Canberra after lunch in the vineyards. It was the best decision we could have made! From the moment we walked in the service was amazing. Emily (spelling?) was genuinely friendly and for a young person had a wealth of knowledge about the wines we were tasting. We sat at a table and just enjoyed a leisurely tasting. The wines were all quite delicious - between the 2 couples we both signed up for a membership and bought extra wines to take back home with us! Such an awesome way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. Highly recommended!

Quirky labels of political types on a range of their wines led to some interesting snippets of how they came about! Nice tastings too! We noticed these wines in the gift shop at Parliament House.
