Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great space! So much history and information in the one building and so very well set out. We could have spent a lot more time than we did. There was even an interactive fish activity that masters 9 and 12 enjoyed doing! Highly recommend the stop. It is free entry, but can give a coin donation.

Wasn't expecting such a wealth of information and artifacts, this was a delight to explore. If we had more time we definitely would have stayed longer

This was such an unexpected find on our coffee stop in Surat. Gold coin entry to what is a great time capsule about the history and life in Surat. Memorabilia was very well presented and prepared. Leave plenty of time to see it all- including the small aquarium!!

An extraordinary, unexpected find. Walk through the doors and you’ll find an art gallery (incredible pastels when I visited), a souvenir and information area, a couple of aquariums!, a ‘museum’ of fascinating collectibles and records, an area describing the artesian basin and related science facts, etc. There’s no charge but donations are very much appreciated. I really wish we’d had more time. Absolutely recommended.

This is an amazing place so leave plenty of time to browse, read and take it all in. From the huge fish tanks in the lobby that give a glimpse of life below the surface of the Baronne River, to the delightful art work in the gallery, to the history of Cobb and Co in the region there is much to appreciate. A real mail coach, memorabilia from the past and a look at how people lived and travelled in another era, there is so much to see. Enjoy!

This is right in the centre of Surat and is extremely well presented as well as being very interesting. It is also free to go in ( though there is a box for donations and in my opinion it certainly deserved donations).

This is an excellent museum with a huge historical presence. The exhibitions are high quality, with a highlight being the stagecoach. Depending on how much reading you do, it’s a good 20 - 30 minute stopover.

We loved Surat. Such a pretty tidy little town steeped in history. Even post flood it was still lovely. The museum is full of true stories about pioneers and settlers and the harsh life they lead. Loved the displays. A gold coin donation is not a problem for such a well set up museum. We loved the town so much we stayed 2 nights

Very interesting history of Cobb and Co and the local area. Very helpful volunteers. Tip, it is a cash only museum.
The souvenirs are a bit pricey, but the money goes towards upkeep of the museum, so happy to pay a bit more
