I first visited the site some 23 years ago and then it was merely columns sticking up out of Orange and Olive Groves. Now the local government has cleared away the groves and begun reconstruction of the Agora's colonnade and added a modern walkway along side the colonnade. Now you can get a better idea of it's original length from... More

The 5000 years old ruins of the city are almost lost. Only some columns are left. Archaeologists are exercising scientific excavations to discover new traces about ancient Roman and Greek empires.

It is a very small historical place, but worth a 5 min stop to see this place and learn a littlebit more about its history.

In Mersin Viransehir Mezitli you can see the columns of the main street of the ancient city of Soloi Pompeipolis.due to the continuing excavations the place is not open to visitors who can have a look at the columns from the outside.

Soloi-Pompeiopolis is an ancient city located west of Mersin. Current name is Mezitli. Visit the colonnaded street (Via Sacra), stop by a cafe and enjoy the sea. Excavation is in progress at the theater. Aratos the famous philosopher is buried here.

When i visited, it was closed. But you can see everything it has from outside. And not much to see. It needs a lot of renovation to be a good attraction. If you want to see some history, then go visit Tarsus which is just 30 km from Mersin city.
