Drove to Monte Faito about 25 Kilometers from Sorrento, approached via winding road, narrow in places. It takes about an hour to get there passing through a national park towards the last 2 Kilometers. If you set the sat nav it may take you through some narrow short cuts. To avoid this follow the directions to Naples and take the... More

Would love to have given a review of a lovely sunny day but the cable car closed at the end of September, I wish the website had told us that before we wasted our time and money getting to the station. Monte Faito's loss was Herculaneum's gain as we spent the rest of the day there instead.

Monte Faito, at 1100 metres (3600feet) and almost the same height as Vesuvius at 1281 metres (4200 feet), will be the highlight to your visit to Castellammare di Stabia, located between Sorrento/Vico Equense and Pompeii. The summit provides spectacular 360° panoramic views of both the Gulf of Naples as well as the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast with the... More

We stumbled upon this by accident when looking for things to do near our hotel (Towers). You board the cable car from Castellammare station on the Circumvesuviana railway line. The journey up Mount Faito is nothing short of spectacular. It feels like this should be much better promoted! Absolutely recommend for anyone staying in the Sorrento area!

The cable car from Castellammare di Stabia station runs every half an hour or so and takes around 15 minutes. Tickets are very reasonable and can be purchased in the circumvesuviana station. Once you have your ticket, walk along the platform to the cablecar entrance. At the top is a cafe/restaurant and the remains of a hotel which appears to... More

head for the resturant terrace by turning right and then right again when you come out at the top of the funicular- its a 10 miunte walk but worth it for the panoramic views from the restaurant terrace.

This is well worth the money. The views from the top are absolutely stunning. There are quite a few walks and established vistas up there plus a place or two to eat and drink. Just be aware that it can be a little cooler at the top so if it's late in season or not the hottest day you may... More

The cable car station is very handy if travelling on the Circumvesuviana. It is accessed from inside the Castellamare di Stabia station (which is just 20 minutes from Sorrento, 10 minutes from Vico and 10 minutes from Pompeii) and is just a few metres from the train station. Both the car going up the mountain and the car coming back... More

8 euros sees you whisked away to the heights of monte faito, to a small walk to some great panoramas, or a larger walk to some high peaks. Certainly better than cycling up like some crazies did, and the funicular railway ran on time... Just remember to get your ticket at the train station before finding out at the funicular... More
