This museum is worth a visit .When we were there they were celebrating the life of a local art historian .For inexplicable reasons they had an amazing exhibition of locks of all shapes and sizes. The name Sansepolcro arises from 2 locals who visited the Holy Land and returned with a set of relics which made the town a focus for... Believe me or not : I have been visiting the place for years (you must know that I'm a big fan of Piero), and even in August, i could never find more than 20 visitors. Given the level of the masterpieces presented here, I really can't explain this.

after missing out on the frescos in Arezzo (now need timed tickets there) we were heartbroken to find the museum here under restoration. Check to be sure the Resurrection is available for viewing before planning your trip. Not much besides the della Francescas worth seeing here. This will be 5 star when done!

As Sansepolcro was the birth place of Piero della Francesca, and this museum is home to two of his major works, it's likely that most visitors to the town will visit this museum and quite right too. The Ascension of Christ (currently being restored but visible through glass) and the Misericordia are stunning. And that's not a word I often... More

Aldous Huxley famously described the Resurrection, by Piero Della Francesca as the greatest painting in the world. I'm not much of a fan of Mr Huxley, but he sure pegged this one. We are staring at greatness, even enough to get down on a knee to peer up under the scaffolding to view the more than half obstructed piece. Me,... More

We visited this museum without having read previous TripAdvisor reviews and so were surprised to find that the Resurrection is still under restoration and partly obscured - a fact not drawn to one's attention at the ticket desk although subsequent signs in Italian explained that other paintings had been brought in for display during the restoration, presumably as compensation. The... More

My wife, mother in law and I visited Sansepolcro for a day from Perugia. The Museo Civico was at the top of our list of places to visit and it was well worth it. One of Piero della Francesca's finest works, 'Resurrection' was undergoing some significant restoration. We were able to view the piece from some tricky angles and to... More

People go to Sansepolcro to see Piero della Francesca's Ressurection. Unfortunately they got some mostly unremarkable paintings from nearby churches and put them around Piero's masterpiece to justify their charging EUR 8 to see it. To make matters worse, Piero's fresco was under restoration and barely visible at all, something they conveniently didn't mention when I bought the ticket.

A lovely visit even with the restoration which does obscure your view of the Resurrection. The digital tables are great, they give a lot of detail in English and Italian of the key Piero works in the museum and their restoration. When we visited the bookshop had little in English. Note we visited on a Saturday and though the published... More
