The Positano landscape is mostly recognisable by this great shiny dome of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta e Cripta Medievale, it looks picturesque and is the historic landmark in the heart of the Positano. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta e Cripta Medievale probably dates back to the 10th century, the church is a typical example of the architecture... More

the church roof and tower are tiled in mosaics, and can be seen all over positano. the inside is lovely, with many objects of art . i have read many books that mention the black madonna, and now i have seen it. from the front courtyard, you can see the beach below and many little shops.

The chiesa is located above the Spiaggia Grande Beach in Positano. There are a lot of stairs to traverse especially going back up the hill. The tiled dome of the chiesa is recognizable throughout Positano.

Went to a family wedding there on Saturday. Absolutely beautiful. We walked to the church, there is a pedestrian walk way and some steps to the church. Our niece (the bride) got dropped off at the start of the walk way and the locals and tourists clapped as she made her way to the church. It is worth a visit... More

This church is located near the Spiaggia Grande Beach in Positano. It was built in the 15th century and the architecture is beautiful. My daughter took some pictures inside. The only negative thing were the stairs to get to the church.

This was a very nice cathedral to visit after spending time in northern Italy visiting many if the Florence cathedrals. Very different with unique influences, and located very close to the beach/harbor. Definitely include a visit to this cathedral in your exploration of Positano.

The Church was built in 15th century I think. They were celebrating the "Dark Madonna". It was so wonderful to see a small community celebrate with strangers and treat them as if they were family.... The architecture and history brings you to tears.

A beautiful church on the shores of Positano, it is a fine example of Byzantine art. The outside dome has beautiful yellow exterior made of majolica tiles. It's famous for having a thirteenth-century Byzantine icon of a black Madonna.
