About
This island in Italy is a hidden gem that's loved by locals. You'll fall in love with the charming, colorful houses, and lively Ponza Harbor, which is full of shops and great seafood restaurants. Take in the breathtaking view of Palmarola Island from Le Forna, and the stunning landscape of turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs, and sunken caves—the views are exceptionally stunning at sunset. There are also plenty of water activities available like snorkeling, sailing, or boating. You can explore the island on an e-bike, or on a full-day tour from Rome or Anzio, which typically includes lunch and swimming stops. Visit during late spring or early fall for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

If you are here for beautiful beaches, then this is the place for you.
I would definitely recommend you to book a boat (private post renting) in advance as they get fully booked very quickly. Getting a boat is an amazing way to see the island as some of it’s best beaches cannot even be accessed by land.
You also don’t even need a boat driving license, and a 15-25 power motor boat should be enough for such a small island as ponza!
Unfortunately if you don’t know italian you will have a very hard time communicating and you won’t even be able to do many of the activities of the island as many will just reject you the minute they understand you don’t speak Italian.
The majority of the restaurants on the island served very low quality food except the Big Hotel restaurants that had both great atmosphere and great food selection.
Booking electrical bikes is also a great way to see the island as you get to enjoy the great views and beautiful sunsets of the island. They are also very easy and safe to drive!

What a disappointment
Very few beaches not easily accessible some locks for landslides, ruined buildings to be demolished, weeds everywhere garbage overflowing from dumpsters even in the center, the bus overloaded with tourists the sea certainly beautiful but disfigured by hundreds and hundreds of boats that in addition to crowding the most beautiful places are anchored even 20 meters from the beaches so you find yourself taking a bath among various hydrocarbons. Restaurants and similar with very high prices (mineral water 6 euros) scooter rental 50 euros per day to see the famous sunset from the terraces of chia di luna just order a drink at a cost of 30 euros...

In itself a beautiful island, too bad that if you do not have a boat you can not fully enjoy it because many areas are inaccessible on foot. To get around we used buses that pass frequently but be careful because in the late morning they are overcrowded with the risk of making the journey standing. Many stairs and climbs to reach the various locations. To rent umbrellas and sunbeds you ask about 10 euros per piece but there are also free spaces. Personally I particularly appreciated the pediment, beach accessible by a boat that leaves continuously whose journey takes less than 10 minutes.
Food in the premises is generally expensive, we staying a week in the port area have often done the shopping at the conad which has acceptable prices.
In the evening, the port area is lively and atmospheric.
Some dirt around unfortunately there is, as well as numerous cockroaches.
In general, ponza has potential but should be treated more.

Beautiful island from a landscape point of view but terribly expensive. I chose to travel to Italy to help spread capital in our country but I don't like being fooled by my fellow countrymen. Few people here issue a tax receipt, they have absurd prices and I have often met rude people. A week to stay here is too much, it starts with a salary without taking a rich holiday. I saw it now and goodbye and thank you!

The island is magnificent, the most crowded port area but with unique features, the alleys, the shops, the friendly and kind people.
The area of Le Forna is quiet, less nightlife, with the only sandy beach Cala Feola on the island, the views of the whole island are spectacular, everywhere you look fantastic coves with crystal clear waters, Recommendation the beach of the gable sand and small pebbles and fantastic natural pools with rocks and real natural pools.
You eat simple dishes everywhere, friselle, sandwiches, lots of fish in restaurants, prices are a bit 'high, but just look for the right place, a sandwich in the grocery store instead of at the kiosk on the beaches makes the difference.
Umbrellas and sunbeds, if you go on free beaches the costs in July are 10.00 euros per piece, at the beach of Frontone 15.00, if you have your own you can be quiet.
What else... the islanders are nice and friendly, after two days you recognize and the stay is pleasant.
The island shuttle service is crucial if you are out of the port, runs every 15 minutes and connects the various points of the island, but initially you have to understand the routes and get carried away, at peak times it is crowded but you get used .. cost 2.50 per full day ride 7.00 euros.
Parking on the island is expensive, few spaces, 2.50 per hour and some areas are closed ZTL.
Take a walk in Punta Incenso, the view is exceptional and enchanting landscape, you might also meet Salvatore called "Ballo" a fisherman of the island who with his stories will touch your soul...

If you are planning to spend a holiday in Ponza keep in mind the following: the timetables and trips of ships and hydrofoils to arrive and leave are very variable so you can not plan much and buy the ticket only before the departure of the ship. On the island buses always have approximate times and never indicated. Multiday tickets are very difficult to buy and it is recommended to do so through
the "mooneygo" app.
Beaches: very difficult to reach by land (some might not even be able to goats) , others are forbidden for safety reasons and the Frontone can only be reached by boat from the port at 7 €.
The beach is as dirty as the rest of the island.
Prices are sky high and most activity managers are unkind and
the interest is only to pluck tourists After 5 days of stay I wonder what are the reasons to return to Ponza. In case you add any bad weather that does not allow you to make the boat ride.
Try to believe and enjoy your holiday.

As the title suggests, they just have to thank the sea! The interior of the island is completely abandoned and full of neglect... moreover, the prices are excessive... a bottle of water is 2 euros!
Leave it alone and go elsewhere!

together with my friend we spent 2 nights in a solution to be defined at Aragostella place on the natural pools in Ponza. Room and bathroom characterized by very limited space and absence of a minimum of comfort. in fact of the two burners in the kitchenette one did not work. We had to ask to repair the toilet drain because that also did not work and in the room there was a stench of sewer. No hair dryer, no washing machine, no air conditioning but just a fan, no blankets. Also the door did not close well. bathroom and shower without hooks and supports for clothing, soap, bottles if any. In the end we found that we paid much more than other people who rented apartments in our vicinity..

It is a beautiful island but it is not well managed. It is very expensive, exaggeratedly expensive, very dirty, a little abandoned to itself, with the boats that have occupied the sea and beaches! This is a real shame because the island is very beautiful, has a crystal clear sea, soiled by rudeness and incivility of people, has wonderful views. Even the Ponzese are very sociable and nice. For this reason I gave it 5 stars, I fell in love with its corners and coves and I fervently hope that it will be "saved" from so much neglect and mismanagement!

Taking advantage of natural beauty, the island is now a trap for boat owners: moorings are more expensive than Portofino and service is terrible, islanders are only waiting to cheat on you and now the municipality introduced a tax on the “water”: if you reach Ponza or Palmarola by boat, anchoring will cost you 3€ per mt a day!!!! For a 12 mt boat is 36€, just to anchor anywhere. I don’t see how they could consider the sea a private property of the town

Avrei intenzioni soggiornare a Ponza l'ultima settimana di giugno.
Volevo sapere se le gite (andata e ritorno) a Ventotene e Palmarola sono previste anche in quel periodo o solo nei mesi di luglio e agosto.

Hi, we are hoping to visit Ponza in April this year, but it seems that the major hotels are closed (chiaia di luna, Hotel Villaggio dei Pescatori). Will restaurants etc. also be closed at this time?
Also, any recommendations on where else to stay - at the moment it looks like Air BnB
Thanks

Hello. we're going to visit Ponza for one day this July and are wondering if anyone has recommendations on a company that does mini-cruises around the island for 1-2 hours. We don't want to do a full-day cruise, as we also want to have some time to explore the island on our own. Thank you.
Grazie. (Google translate used)
