This town and the surrounding mountains are spectacularly beautiful. But it is so loud. Church bells go off every 15 minutes from 7:00 until 10:00 or 11:00pm. Loud, outdoor heavy metal German bands screaming until 11:00pm. Come to party. Not to relax or hike because you won’t sleep.

Ortisei' s a small town, but there is much to enjoy: shops with carvings, lovely coffee shops and cafés, an interesting looking wine bar, wine shop and gelateria. The beautifully carved pews are something to behold and the interior is lovely. Picture perfect pedestrian zone, lovely to take a walk in the morning or in the evening. Really enjoyable! Ortisei' s pedestrian zone is definitely worth a visit. Loved Ortisei.

This place actually looks like a fairytale town. We were lucky enough to be staying right in this zone in one of the lofts owned by an acquaintance. Walking around this town gives you a peek into the charm of the village of Ortisei. The church adds the European touch to the area. There are plenty of souvenir shops selling everything from reasonably priced fridge magnets to the more expensive wood carvings so there is something to suit every budget. There are lot of stores selling ski gear as well. There are also many restaurants and a big spar (supermarket) for your daily needs. The bus stand and taxi stand is near the church. Buses are free with the card provided by most hotels and b&bs and once you have the bus schedule, you can plan your day trips to explore the beautiful surrounding areas!

Germany in Italy, all the quaint buildings in the town center resemble hotels and inns in the Tyrole with beautiful pastel facades and gingerbread woodwork. Lots of restaurants and cafes and an art center displaying the wood sculptures typical for the area. An amazingly opulent St Jacob's Church. Not to be missed, the funicular car up to

The walking zone is like a fairytale in Winter seasons. Packed with sport-shops (mostly for ski), restaurants and hotels, is very nice because it has a bridge over the main road who leads you directly to the ski lifts.

OrtiseiIt is a surprisingly charming little town, situated in Val Gardena, with those wonderful jagged Dolomites always lingering in the background. It was fun to simply walk around, window-shop, and visit a few local shops selling woodcarvings.

As part of a day trip in the Dolomites we had a morning stop in Ortisei. This is a most beautiful little town up in the mountains. There is plenty to see and take in, the lovely Tyrone architecture and some very nice shops. We stopped for coffee and apple strudel in a most delightful cafe which is the blue building in the attached photos. A must to visit and see.

In winter, this place is the heart of Christmas. A magical, fairytale place. You will not want to leave here. I have not seen so many lights, trees and Christmas symbols in one place yet..

We enjoyed a lot walking around in Ortisei's center, though pretty small everything is lovely and colorful with the green mountains behind.
There were some musicians in the street, nice shops, houses in blue, yellow, orange, pink... Just lovely!
Even the small ones enjoyed walking around, see the woodcraft and dance to the music in the street.

We stopped here on our way back to Lake Garda from our trip to the Dolomites. This is a charming town with a typical alpine feel. It is great that the town is pedestrians only as it gives it a relaxed and calm feel to the town. There are lots of shops and restaurants to choose from catering for all tastes. There is a wooden bridge over a stream covered in flowers which is particularly nice and good for a photograph. There is a nice river running through the town beside the main road which was very welcome on a very hot and sticky day.
This town is well worth a visit if in the area.

In molte località turistiche fuori stagione è tutto chiuso.
Grazie

Buonasera,

Good Morning
Does the town have good wheelchair access and which is the best car park for easy access to the town?
Written 12 September 2016
Hi, the main street is traffic free, so no issue from that point of view. Off the main road I have to admit did not make a specific note about dropped kerbs so don't feel qualified to help on that. We were in car park across from the town access across a bridge which would be wheel chair friendly.
The shopping area and our car park were a little hilly but not that too difficult if f the wheel chair occupant was aided. The tourist centre had toilets, very clean and accessible from a wheelchair point of view. I have completed a Disability Awareness Course, so do try to note these when travelling. All the shopkeepers were friendly, but many of the shops had two or three steps, some of the cafes had outdoor seating, thats probably weather dependent. Hope this helps and if you visit I am sure you will enjoy the town, its stunningly beautiful.

does it have good wheelchair access
Written 12 September 2016
There are some close parking places, it's a relatively small area of a few streets, there are almost no cars in the specific streets nor sidewalks, so far so good, but, the streets are mostly up/down hill so it might add some difficulties with a wheel chair.
