We stayed four nights right on the main square in Montepulciano (Palazzo Nobile di San Donato --would highly recommend this boutique hotel!). This was our base for our tour of 'southern' Tuscany. The main square was the filming location for Netflix's Medici: Masters of Florence....More

In July it can be very hot but this small town is not overwhelmed with the crowds that plague the rest of Tuscany . The buildings are beautiful and quiet and open for you to explore in peace for as long as you like .

The pinnacle of an uphill walk through the streets of Montepulciano. Its up hill all the way but well worth the effort even in 38 degrees of heat. Surely one of the most iconic Piazzas in Italy

Nice place to take a short brake. In the center of Montepulciano. There are enough restaurants and interesting shops nearby.

It’s a long walk up but you can always take the little bus down if you’d rather not walk. Or vice versa. But there’s not a lot going on in the piazza so you won’t need a lot of time.

We had a great experience using a company in Cortona for our visits around Tuscany. “Together in Tuscany”. Check out their website and contact them. They will do a great job putting visits around the area together for you.
