- Inspire552305Towson, Maryland29 contributionsBest wine tour ever! This wine tour and tasting was the best out all we did during our trip to Italy. Emilio was so knowledgeable and a wonderful guide. His love and enthusiasm for wine was clear to see. The cellar is amazing. The wine is delicious! We ordered 2 cases!!! And the owner was so friendly and interested in from what country/town every guest was visiting. This should be on everyone's list to experience!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023
- Liz ERichmond, Virginia8 contributionsHIGHLY RECOMMENDMy mom and I had an excursion booked for us here by our travel agency (Your own Italy) & it is safe to say we were not disappointed. After traveling to mega producer Banfi the day before (which was also lovely)- De Ricci's small, historic wine cellar was extremely unique. Our guide, Ron was absolutely wonderful- he was very knowledgeable ( the wines, the process, the company history, etc...), gave a history packed tour of the ancient cellar and caves & was friendly and welcoming. Cannot recommend him enough- he was very attentive to our questions & was very generous with our wine tastings (which were also DELICIOUS). We wound up shipping an entire case of wine back to the states. Anyone who is going to Montepulciano, this wine cellar is a MUST SEE & I hope you get Ron as your guide!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023
- albertobianchi31Rome, Italy5 contributionsFederico made the difference!Sunday April 14th. The visit was amazing, the wine cathedral, the cellars, everything well organized and very well explained. Our guide, Federico, provided one of best explanations I've ever had: detailed but not boring, entertaining but never trivial. From the wine aging techniques to the food-wine coupling, he made this experience unforgettable. A big thumb up.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 April 2024
- mamakyns10 contributionsA great experienceWe went to the winery outside of the city first for a tour and wine/food pairing. It was a beautiful view and fabulous wine and food pairing with Emilio. We met the winemaker, Niccolo and his wife and he allowed us to taste some of his wine from barrels. We then went into the old city to tour the wine cave. You can't miss it. Emilio met us there and gave us a fantastic tour with ALL the history of the family and the site. It was a very memorable tour.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 April 2024
- SoCalCindyHuntington Beach, California104 contributionsAmazing wineryNot only did we love the wine tour of this very unique winery, we adored all the wines here as well! Very rarely will we purchase all the wines we taste but here we did just that. Of all the wineries we visited on our three month trip this was in our top five wineries. We shipped home fifteen cases of wine and have a great appreciation of Italian wines.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 May 2024
- Misty F27 contributionsDo not miss this!We had a wonderful experience and afternoon at Cantina De Ricci. We started in town with the tour through the cellars, and then were escorted over to the vineyard and restaurant by the owners. They were very kind and informative. We had our 4 kids with us (ages 7-16), and everyone enjoyed the time. The food was amazing. They were accommodating to our child with nut allergies, and we just felt like we were amongst friends. Our time here will hold a special place in our hearts. We hope to return.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 June 2024
- Suzie SMontepulciano, Italy31 contributionsOutstanding and a Must Visit! My husband and I stumbled upon this winery with our friends just before Christmas and realized we hit the jackpot about 2 minutes into our tour. The history is unbelievable and a must visit if you're in Montepulciano. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us details about their history while walking us through their Etruscan caves. The family history plus the connection with the hedgehog is very interesting! Following the tour we sat down for a wine tasting. The wines are excellent and we ended up shipping a couple cases home to Texas. And we returned again in May for more! It's our go to wine now.... They are in the Forbes Top 50 wines in Italy- and there's something like 100,000+ wineries in Italy - so that's a pretty big deal. Excellent quality and value. 11 out of 10 starsVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2024
- Mr.Sm1thDevon, United Kingdom146 contributionsBest wine tasting everWe started our tour at the vineyard just outside of Montepulciano, we were welcome by Fred who explained the history of the winery with a very pleasant manner. We were then introduced to the table where we sat for a fabulous lunch of simple but delicious food coupled with what should have been 4 wines but ended up being 5. During our tasting Fred explained with great passion each wine, he is very knowledgeable and loves his job. We were also introduced to the owner’s son who was very humble and had a nice way about him. After lunch we visited the cellars in Montepulciano where again Fred explained in great depth the history of the building followed by another 2 tastings. After the tour finished with sat with Fred at a local bar and share more wine and stories with him. We have done a lot of wine tastings and this is the best one in terms of explaining the wines and giving the whole experience.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 July 2024

The underground cave and cathedral, the story, the history... It is a full package. Adding that they have a very nice wine at affordable prices. I recommend you to visit the place.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 August 2024

Then went to vineyard for lunch with several tastings, and able to meet entire family - great people and fantastic wine. The lunch was very good and the wine was great. Fantastic experience and people. If in the area, this is a must do experience and purchase of the wines.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 September 2024

Despite several recommendations, this cantine has become too crowded to be pleasant. While the historical cellar is interesting to view, the 20 minute delay in starting the tour, the 5 minute wait
before we could enter the tasting room, and the 15 minute wait after we entered the tasting room before we were given any taste of wine
made it a drawn out affair not worth the time or money. The staff were very nice and the wine was fine.

When approaching the town of Montepulciano, can see lots and lots of wine related proposals: tastings and visits. Is all about the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. We visited the other wine cellar (by the Big Square, Piazza Grande) it was OK but a little further we came across with this surprise. We entered through this building (Palazzo Ricci) unimaginable that through an “equestrian” staircase (wonder if in the old times they used horses to transport wine barrels up and down!) we would tour an underground world of tunnels, Etruscan caves, water wells, aisles and naves, an underground cathedral of wine!. Free entry, English spoken, tasting if interested, a must do when in Montepulciano.

We were enjoying the tour, but it was ruined by allowing a 3-year old child to run and scream uncontrollably all over the place as we tried to listen and absorb our guide’s commentary. Our guide was doing a fine job but nobody could hear him. Parents never tried to control the child or take her outside. Unfortunately, management chose to ignore the distraction, which made it impossible to enjoy the tour and wine tasting. We feel that after paying ~$55.00, we deserved better and children should not be allowed in! Money back?? Larry & Vilma Anderson

Last week my boyfriend and I visited this winery and we couldn't have made a better choice.
With only €20 each. We were able to visit the underground cellar guided by the talented Romina, who told us the story of the de Ricci family with enthusiasm and passion. The tour ends in a common room where you proceed with the tasting of 3 or 6 De Ricci wines (depending on the ticket paid at the entrance). Finally, there is also the possibility of purchasing wines, we bought 2 for a total of €33.
In short, an unforgettable and recommended experience!

An amazing experience in so many respects. The village/town is of course a wonderful Attraction in itself (in an absolutely magical environment too). Then add this historic wine palace, and then into the bargain many lovely wines. We were there at opening time 10:30 without having pre-booked. No problem and paid for the viewing and tasting of three wines.
Ron, our Guide, was incredibly good - passionate, committed, knowledgeable and entertaining and so clearly thrilled by what he does and where he does it. In a fascinating way, he intertwined the history of the old palace (and its fanatical cellar), the importance of the region and the city around winemaking, with a description of the family, the processes, its challenges and joys. Incredibly good, and the best viewing we visited during our Trips in Italy. We can highly recommend this - and not least Ron. Very, very good Guide and Cicerone.

Unfortunately, we only had time for the tour of the cellars and not for the wine tasting as well but we were simply blown away… Our guide, Ron gave not only a very informative but also very entertaining presentation of the site’s history and current business. Visiting the cellars is like fast-forwarding through the city’s history from the Etruscan times to 2023… I will try to attach a few pictures but they pale compared to the real life experience. A total joy…

Unique experience that I would recommend to all those who want to approach the world of wine. During the visit to the cellar we were guided by the Sommelier Federico, an exquisite and highly trained person. He delighted us with his passion for the world of wine, telling us the history of this Montepulciano winery, in a simple and captivating way. We recommend the tasting experience of 6 wines including tasting and visit.
Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed the tour and tasting at Cantina de' Ricci. The cellar is so unique and the story behind it is fascinating. I would recommend going, but know that they are pushing through a lot of people on the tour and the tasting is not as personal as we experienced at some smaller wineries in the countryside. That being said, our tour guide was great and the space will blow you away. The wines were very good as well; we ordered a case to ship home.

We had a nice and informative wine experience: tour of the cellar and history + splendid tasting - 100% worth the fee (you can choose for either 3 or 6 glasses). The history of the hedgehog and family was captivating. Extra surprise: our guide was Dutch, so everything was explained in our own language. He really took the time to answer our questions and was ‘gezellig’. Grazie mille!

We booked a tasting in the historic De Ricci winery, being visiting the area. Our Guide, Ron, was very knowledgeable, helpful and also fun! He illustrated the whole history of this ancient winery, really interesting and not at all boring, also because seasoned with several anecdotes. The tasting moment was sublime, a real explosion of tastes and aromas... we sipped six different types of Tuscan wines accompanied by tastings of cheeses, bruschetta and typical cold cuts. The route was explained in detail and with obvious passion for their work. In the end we bought a couple of bottles and we will definitely order more online. We were fully satisfied and recommend this experience to anyone who loves history and good wine.
