    Beautiful view!
Beautiful views of Lake Garda, nearby towns, and the foothills of the Alps. Paragliders were launching from the top, just a few feet from us, which was amazing to watch. We took the cable car from Malcesine to the top. Many hiking trails accessible here.

    Happy tripper
Visited and made the trip today. Well worth the money. Amazing views and far more to wander around at the top than we'd imagined. You get a true perspective of the size of the lake. Some advice to help you decide. You can book online to avoid a queue but bear in mind if you get there for your booking and the weather is poor you can't get a refund so you'll either go and not see anything or abandon it and waste your money. Much better we found, to make your decision on the day. Check the forecast and simply look up the mountain to see what the cloud is like. Common sense really. Be aware that if you do buy on the day you have to queue to buy your tickets and then you have to go and join the end of the prepaid queue. Don't let it put you off though. The queues move steadily and our waiting time was around an hour. It was worth it. We got a return ticket. You can spend as much time as you like at the top and just catch the next car down when you're ready. Total time to ascend to the top was 20 minutes give or take. I've read reviews that say it's an hour but that's certainly not our experience. The cars do get full but they rotate as they ascend so everyone gets to see the views over the lake. Choose a good day and go to the top. You won't regret it.

Get There As Early As You Can
We were only in Lake Garda for 6nights & only decided what day to go to Mount Baldo once we could see what weather was likely to be like. We didn’t get our tickets prior to getting to Malcesine as were staying in south of the lake & understood cloud cover could be different north to south. We decided that if cloud cover looked really bad when we arrived we would just sirens the day at Malcesine. Cloudy when we arrived (10.30 ish)but still decided to go to top. Small queue to get tickets,we then joined long queue for cable car. In all about 1hr 15mins. Cable car splits half way up. The de ind lift spins slowly so everyone gets a full 360view. Once at the top there is far more to see & do than I imagined. People were heading off on long hikes or up there to paraglide. We probably spent a good couple of hours walking around at the top, including stopping for a drink & snack. We didn’t have a blue sky day, but the views spectacular & well worth the queueing.

    Fantastic experience
An amazing experience taking the 2 cable cars to the top of Monte Baldo. Had drinks in the restaurant at the top. Unfortunately for us, the summit was in low clouds so we couldn't experience the amazing views over Lake Garda. Would definitely do it again.

    A view that won’t disappoint
We were staying in Malcesine so of course a trip up the mountain was one of the things we’d planned to do and we weren’t disappointed. The cable car is easy to get to and if you come from further afield there is a car park at hand. The ‘station’ is modern and well organised and we didn’t have to queue at all which surprised us especially as it was a clear warm day. If you’re staying in Malcesine you may be given and discount card by your hotel and you can use that here to save €3 on each ticket. The cable car gives a wonderful view on its ascent ( you change to a different car half way up) and takes about 10 minutes. The view from the top of Monte Baldo is stunning with snow capped mountains, lush green valleys and of course Lake Garda. There are lots of walks you can follow although don’t under estimate how tricky some are and wear the right footwear if that’s what you intend to do. You can also watch the paragliding from the top which is interesting and thrilling and if you’re really brave you can have a tandem ride too! There is a restaurant if you fancy a drink or food , La Capannina, the service was lovely and the food was good. It’s very much in the Swiss chalet style and was perfect for its location. We had a wonderful day in all and this was definitely my favourite part of our holiday.

    Incredible Views
Do not just hang about the cable car station. Coming out of the exit, take a right and make the effort to climb a little higher. The views down to the south of the lake are amazing (I'd recommend stout shoes). Go back to the station and follow the path in the opposite direction (it goes under a small bridge), from where you'll likely see paragliders taking off. At the far end, you'll reach a great viewing point where you can see the snow-topped Dolomites. We must have spent about 4 hours up here and we really had to drag ourselves away. The cable car was fine, even though we went at about 10:30. However, I think this was more due to the fact we weren't going during school holiday time. I imagine it's a different proposition if you visit in July/August. We did notice a distinct "free for all" attitude, with no queueing. This would be more than an irritation had things been busy. Also, buy your ticket online; it's cheaper and you avoid the queue at the entrance. One final tip: there is no humidity up here which really takes the sting out of the heat. Don't be fooled and ensure you're protected.

    Trip for stunning views
Don't miss a trip on the cable cars. The 2nd one revolves for 360-degree views of the lake. Wasn't perfectly clear day, but we still could see sirmione down the south end and riva to the north. There are lots of walking and cycling trails on the top. Couple of eating venues, sky walk very good, chilled vibe, decide what you want, order and pay at the till then collect, prices as expected 8 euros for Italian sandwich, good choice available Sit and watch the people jumping from the top. In the summer, be prepared to que or get there early. Lovely day out.

Stunning views and plenty to do
The views and things to do at the top of this mountain are absolutely phenomenal. Even if you have a fear of heights the top of the mountain is wide and there are plenty of walks to do which don’t take you to any cliff edge or steep drops. The cable cars follow the hillside except a section near the bottom where you are quite a way up from the ground. We visited during the afternoon on a very hot and clear day, it was extremely busy queuing for the cable cars. It took over an hour to get to the top due to the queues, however the actual cable car journey only takes around five minutes for the first part and 8 minutes for the second. Once up at the top it is so vast that you don’t notice how many people are up there and it doesn’t feel crowded. There are two restaurants at the top, take cash in case the card machines don’t work with the height/reception/connection. Along with the amazing views, some highlights for us were seeing the alpacas at the top and watching the paragliders take off up there. The queues in the heat were a little frustrating but it is worth the wait. The cable cars don’t have air con but the windows open at the top which ensured it didn’t feel too stuffy when they were full. They also send more cable cars than the every 30 minutes stated with the big queues.

    Long queue and stunning view
Let’s get it out the way…the queue for the lift is long probably about 1-1.5hrs, booking a specific time slot is pretty much meaningless… Do book online before, it’s cheaper and saves a double queue for the ticket office.. Ok once you’re on the lifts then things move quick enough, yes they cram allot of people on, but this trip is very popular. The 2nd lift turns through 360degrees which is cool.. Once you are up it’s just stunning, beautiful views in all directions, cool dry air and well worth having a wonder around and maybe grab a drink… And yes in reference to a previous review, drinks and food will cost you more..but you’re up a mountain what did you expect?! So despite the long queue we thought it was worth it and we’re glad we went.

Ok, firstly the views from the Mountain are breathtaking. Absolutely amazing and this is a must for anyone visiting Lake Garda. 5 stars for the view and the cable car journey up.

Why only 2 stars then overall?

Getting into the cable car in the first place!

We turned up early, and there was a huge queue. First you need to buy a ticket. This can be done online or in the ticket office by the cable car station. Once you buy a ticket, you have a 30 minute time slot. So you then go and join this huge queue.

Now can anyone tell me how long it will take to get to the front of this queue? No. However, the company responsible seems to think you should know.

We had a time slot from 11:30am to 12:00 so we joined the long queue at about 10:45am. When we finally got to the front at 11:10, we were told we were too early and had to join the queue again at the back! You can be 10 minutes early, that is fine.

We held a reasonably polite conversation with a staff member there explaining that we were not happy being told we had to queue again, and there would be every likelihood that we would miss our time slot. However, he would have none of it, at one point even saying that if we did not rejoin the queue, he would annul our tickets! Charming man! We did manage to have a conversation with him long enough to enable us to remain, as our time slot started.

Not impressed with the organisation nor staff. It would not take much thought to arrange entrance on a much better basis. The company responsible also need to give their staff some lessons in dealing with customers.

Having said all that, once we calmed down and took the car up, our little battle to board seemed insignificant. It truly will take your breath away.

I was sceptical at first based on reviews, it is expensive but felt worth it for the views and cable car is modern. Avoid 10-12 if you don’t want to queue. We bought tickets at the office as we had cash and only took 10mins, didn’t skip that much of the queue on the day we visited but maybe it’s worse in peak times. We didn’t mind too much, part of the experience. Second car rotates so worth trying to get near the windows. Views at the top were fantastic, lots of paragliders taking off which was nice to watch. Recommended good shoes trainers or walking shoes as rocky paths. Bar up the top with lots toilets and modern facilities. Avoided the lady selling alpaca merch as she came across a bit aggressive, watching your every move and not allowing any touching of the goods I personally wouldn’t buy material without being to check if it feels soft.

A sightseeing trip up Monte Baldo above Malcesine is a must. The cable car journey ascends the 5,774 ft in two stages, the second part has pods that revolve slowly affording fabulous views of Lake Garda and beyond.

There are hiking, paragliding and mountain biking opportunities but just a walk is amazing with breathtaking views and loads of photo opportunities.

It gets very busy so my tip is to book in advance (at the ticket office, through your hotel reception or online) to avoid some queuing. We also went up relatively early at 8.30 which beat most of the crowds that arrive in Malcesine on excursions.

An hour or so up there, with a comfort break and coffees was sufficient for us and we descended with only a few other people and could enjoy the views far better. The pods going up at around 10.30-11.00 looked crammed and there were long queues at the entrance.

You can, of course, choose to walk

A worthwhile experience.

Guide books advice of arriving early is absolutely correct!
Our 0930 voucher was advanced by the ticket office to 0915 and we duly caught an earlier gondola. The ascent is in two stages with 81 people ( includes attendant) every 10 minutes. The second gondola rotates through 360 degrees over the ascent so all get a good view. From the top , head off in either direction but by going left you will get dramatic views to the north of the Lago , to Laga Pra della Stua and be mesmerised by the skills of the hang gliders taking off over the lake.
Excellent way to spend 3 hours!

Unfortunately there are only 2 cars (1 in each direction) on the 2 levels so the wait is long and the queues excessive. Make sure you book ticket's online as you save 2 euros pp and won't have to re queue once you've purchased them.on site. We noticed less people later in the afternoon so waiting may pay off.
It is well worth it as the views of the Dolomites and the Lake are stunning. You'll never get better unless you go paragliding or fly over.

In January 2024 we took the cable car from Malcesine to go skiing on Monte Baldo. We were actually more interested in the atmosphere with Lake Garda than in the skiing itself. In fact, it turned out that the slopes were much more demanding than expected. The highlight was still the view of the glittering Lake Garda. This can be admired while skiing from the connecting slope to the cable car, the Paperino slope, the Pozza della Stella slope and the upper part of the Pra Alpesina slope (which was unfortunately closed). Based on the homepage and the piste map, we had expected much less of a view and were really positively surprised. One can only wonder why the ski area only shows photos of the less beautiful sections of the slopes on its homepage, which do not have a view of Lake Garda.
In addition to the skiing, the ambience was also great. We were able to have lunch in the Baita del Forti hut, of course with a panoramic view of Malcesine and the lake about 1700m below us. Since the lifts close at 4:00 p.m., but the last cable car doesn't go down to the valley until 4:45 p.m., we were able to spend the last 45 minutes relaxing in the Skywalk Bar as the sun set.
In the end, it was a very successful day with lots of sunshine. It should also not go unmentioned that the ski pass is included in the ticket for a cable car ride up and down, so you get a very cheap day ticket for €25 compared to other ski areas.

There is probably a good time to do this trip, but we missed it. Having bought tickets online “to avoid the queue “ we arrived about 11:00 am to find complete chaos. People were still able to buy tickets at the base station and seemingly they were sold to all comers, even though all the available slots had been bought by online purchasers. We had to queue for 2 hours! It then takes 30 minutes to ascend. When you get to the top the views are wonderful and ideally one would walk down. We only spent about 35mins at the top as we were very concerned that there would, later in the afternoon, be huge queues to get down.
All in all a very disappointing experience on a truly spectacular day.
Advice would be to go up very early or about 2 pm.

Amazing visit, wonderful views on a clear day and just one of the best experience.

We took the left turn on arrival to the view point, about a 10/15min walk each way past the alpacas and cows with wonderful views.

The cafe that why looks amazing but a lot more expensive than the Sky bar at the terminal which was excellent.

We turned up without tickets at 0830 and had a discount voucher as staying in Malcesine, we walked straight to the ticket office with not a single person in front, it cost 23 euro each and went straight up.

We returned around 11am, the queue was down the street to get in and even the prebooked was large, so get their early and you can enjoy less people.

The great view of the lake and the wonderful hikes unfortunately do not make up for the two-hour wait at the gondola and the cramped ride. A maximum number of people are squeezed into the gondola, so you cannot enjoy the view. We paid €91 for two adults, a 14-year-old and a dog. I would advise dog owners not to subject their dogs to this torture.

We were there early Sunday morning and NO queues. After what many had written, we were really worried. We didn't have to wait at all! We paid 25 euros per person for a return trip. The view from the top is really beautiful!
