Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Take ten minutes or so to visit the crypt. You will see beautiful arches and tile floors. Pay particular attention to the ninety four decorated columns which support the arches. Each has a unique capital and individual symbolic decorations.
Look down as well. The grilled areas in the floor reveal views of burial sites for clerics and members of noble families.
Signage in English tells you much about the history of the site.

This Cathedral is beautifully adorned with well preserved religious artworks and carvings. There was no charge to look around.

This beautiful building is in the main duomo square which is very open. It is worth a look but you need to move to the edges of the square to fully appreciate the architecture

Many cathedral crypts celebrate the rich and famous, this one is different. On descent from the left column when facing the altar, one enters a quiet area of memorial. The grilled areas look into unknown sepulchre (avoid if squeamish or young) which can raise a tear in the most unemotional. Take time to view the column capitals (there are some historical oddities eg the old Lecce Campinalla). On my visit, excavations we’re continuing under the nave, showing some burial sites, but primarily a large abandoned ossuary.

Loved the startling quiet of the crypt which exudes a more Byzantine age. Beautiful arches and well worth a half hour visit.

Sorry the crypt did not inspire me. Yes lots of columns and some important remains but I was out in a jiffy.

There are a LOT of churches in Lecce - all similar and it makes a nice change to see something a little more contemporary - there is a door onto the main square which is interesting - I won't spoil it for anyone by describing, but it is worth a look - the Piazza del Duomo is a good space for a breather from the crowds and the sun.

Walking along the Piazza del duomo you can see the Cathedral. Interesting structure, the architecture. We didn't go inside but it certainly worth a visit.

Closed when we visited, but the informational sign says that 94 decorated columns support it, each with a different capital. Restoration completed in April 2017. Admission price is €2/person.

The cathedral is located more or less in the centre of the old historical town. It is baroque and built in the 17th century although the original cathedral was founded in the 12th century. It is in the shape of a cross and the ceiling is a beautiful wooden one which is highly decorated. The cathedral is worth a visit for this alone. We spent about 30 minutes exploring the architecture and side chapels. The cathedral is in one corner of the Piazxo del Duomo and obviously has a bell tower.
