Underwhelming

Now I'm all for a good castle but this was pretty underwhelming. There were lots of cream walls and windows.. And that was about it. A couple of info boards and at least the ground level was free. Use it as a cut through to get back to your car and you'll have done it!

Disappointing

Although an impressive building I don’t feel they have made any effort to dress it. Empty rooms with just the odd boards giving a little of the history. Very disappointing

RATHER DISAPPOINTING

Also known as Castello di Lecce, it was built originally in the Middle Ages and updated by Charles V in the early 1500’s.
When we visited, you could only walk through from the false gate to the real gate, stopping in the central courtyard. Only notable thing about this castle are the 4 odd shaped bastions. It is also home to an official TI office just inside Porta Reale.

An average castle

Castello Carlo is a rather underwhelming castle. The structure is quite pretty but I would have been content to simply visit the courtyard for free. After paying we stepped inside to find mostly empty rooms. There was a temporary art exhibit on display but its relevance to the castle was hard to connect. Next time I'd skip it all together.

As castles go, quite disappointing and little of interest

On a day visit to Lecce and during the lunchtime closures of the churches, we diverted to have a look at the castle. Very plain external walls with arrowhead corner battlements - not recognisable except from planview.
The entrance is understated on via XXV Luglio (25 July) and one can walk freely in; through the inner courtyard ( an archaeological dig); through the outer rear courtyard (restoration works); and out of the back door into a quiet piazza Libertini. That was it - all of 5 -10 minutes.
There may have been events/exhibitions somewhere but we didn't look hard and from other reviews, it sounds like we didn't miss much. For a building dating to the Middle Ages, it was disappointingly sparse - maybe it will improve in time.
I think there are other more worthwhile things to see in Lecce at the moment.

Visit the Castle but don't pay to get in!

You can go into the courtyard and see the castle from the inside, otherwise you need to pay 10 EURO per person and I could not see the point of this. Not a great deal to see but good to wander around the outside of the castle and have a look....

If you are in Lecce is of course a must. We did not enter but the view of the castle from outside is really interesting.

The largest castle in puglia

Lots of history in this castle, which is relatively well preserved. Some areas are not accessible due to renovations, which is a pity. On the ground floor we could see the entrance, the inner court yard with remains from medieval construction, and the passage to the opposite entrance (called porta falsa); on the first and second floor, where these days you can see an exhibition of photography, you can visit some rooms of the castle but not the entire building. The castle has no furniture or decorations, therefore it is recommended for a visit only if you are interested in its architecture.

Overpriced for what you get!

We would definitely not recommend people to go here. You pay €10,- per person and the majority of the castle is off limits. Also all the information provided was only in Italian. The best thing we saw was a temporary exposition.

much money for a little to see

The rooms the visitor can see are very limited for the fare paid. Just a small section of the yard and four or five empty rooms that houses some contemporary excibitions. I expected more for the fare paid. Disappointment
