Sant'Oronzo is the patron of Lecce commemorated on the column located on the main square of the city. The column was given to the city of Lecce by the city of Brindisi where people acknowledged that he cured the plague.

This particular column is more imposing than most, usually a sign that the memorial is of importance. Saint Oronzo, the martyred patron saint of Lecce, whose intercession was credited in alleviating the suffering of the town during the plague. That could merit gratitude I'm thinking.

Inside is the Tourist Information office with English speaking guides.Get your maps, events calendars, walking and dother tours of the area... Fabio is great.Beside it is the Roman Amphitheater. Overlooks Piazza Sant'Oronzo which is mobbed by babies in strollers, old couples, groups of school kids, and of course tourists. Abuzz with activities at passeggiatta time, around 7pm.

.....to get back to the main square. St Oronzo on top has the best view in town. Love the fact that this is the twin column from the one in Brindisi that marks the end of the Appian Road. We stood on that ancient Roman road when in Rome....605 km away.

Very beautiful structure and piazza. The baroque architecture with its ornate carvings is breathtaking.

Very nice column which is very venerated by the people of this region. In this region there are some similar columns in other cities. This is probably the more attractive and representative.

This column stands in the main tourist square of Lecce- for good and for ill. The day we were there had a market set up with local products which was fun to browse. Watch out for pickpockets.

A very open piazza this old amphitheater,i love the yellowish stone colours. At night the lights are on and look like old gas lights. Beautiful. Lots of eateries around- and small stores.

At the center of the square in the center of Lecce, the column dominates the landscape of the city. Under the column is the olive tree that provides shade to passersby. Interesting to visit.
