No access to beach
Sep. 2019 • Friends
Hi guys,

we tried to find a great beach spot and it seems to be that one. But unfortunately it is not accessible without a room in the hotel or accommodation in this region.

Regards

A Tuscan treasure
Jul. 2016 • Family
We rented a villa on the hillside outside Porto S Stefano and just loved it. Stunning views and sunsets. Charming towns with marinas and great places to eat. Not too touristy, beach and green hills with unspoiled, rugged interior.

The lagoons make for bird life and long sandy beaches, the rocky cliffs have quiet coves and some stony beaches.

Orbetello for food shopping if self catering;,watch the fishing boats land their catch at S. Setefano. Fresh fish for sale; gelato aplenty.

Utterly lovely and the best bit? Italians asking 'how did you find this place?' A well kept Tuscan treasure, I shouldn't be telling you....

We just love le cannelle beach in Monte Argentario, the wild side of Tuscany !!!
Jun. 2015 • Family
Fantastic place, naturally surrounded by mediterranean vegetation, the road to arrive is steep downhill but the crystal clear water that you'll find deserve the effort. It's a beach, so what's special? You get the sand on one side and medium large round stones on an other, during a night a sea storm can change completely its layout. When it's time to go home you can choose to came out from the rocks around and you are clean as you were swimming in the swimming pool. Perfect place for fishing, diving or just relax and admire the sun set. We were there in June and the beach was much cleaner than other beaches in the area. Our inflatable canoe allowed us to visit also the neighbouring cove. I heard from locals that the beach le cannelle is named after the small river that arrive to the sea. looking forward to be there again.

Do not attempt to drive around the isle !!
Apr. 2016
We made the mistake of trying to circumnavigate the isle driving from the causeway to Porto San Sefano around to Porto Ercole. The road diminishes to a single track crumbling tarmac strip with few barriers to the sea far below. The locals drive with usual Italian devil may care aplomb forcing visitors to the edge or walls - we now have a scratch from bonnet to boot from encountering part of a tree avoiding a large 4x4. The road meanders snake like up and down hairpin bends and ends at a deeply rutted mountain forked trail. Thankfully we encountered friendly German tourists in a massive 4x4 who told us they had failed and just managed to turn the vehicle around trying to complete the circuit. Thus we were forced to retrace the hair raising journey back to Porto San Stefano. Thankfully it was good weather in rain it would have been the worst nightmare ever and would make a thrill seekers ride at a top theme park.

However that said the views of Isola del Giglio are splendid, the dry stone terraces inspiring and the posh yachts and boats delightful.

Round trip to Argentario
Argentario is the ideal destination for anyone was looking for a short round trip to the beach, especially if you live or stay in Rome. Amazing is to cross the tongue of land ,completely sorrounded by sea,  that from the town of Orbetello leads to the peninsula of Argetario. There are a few beaches you can choose from with sand or rocks and cliffs. For my part, I like adventures and singular sites, that is the reason why I chose Cala di gesso:a small beach , mostly rocky , accessible by a very steep path; it's hard to reach but it's worth the efforts.

Little Known Beach Area in Tuscany
My husband and I have been living in Perugia for the past 10 months, and have been experiencing the hottest summer in decades. We had heard horror stories about the crowds on the beaches in August, and swore we would never do that. But the heat weakened our resolve, and we headed out spur of the moment for an area called Argentario in southern Tuscany. We were rather surprised to find a vacancy in this wonderful hotel called Hotel Relais I Presidi in Orbetello overlooking the lagoon. The two major towns on the Argentario are Porto S.Stefano, where you can catch ferries to the outer islands, and Porto Ercole.
There are interesting old Spanish forts to explore, and numerous beaches. Our favorite beach was on the Feniglia on the way to Porto Ercole, with very nice sand, clear water, and rental umbrellas and chairs. We did not see any Americans, and were surprised that the area wasn't overly crowded. We had dinner both nights in wonderful restaurants with local, fresh-caught fish: Flavia in Talamone and Osteria dei Nobili Santi in Porto Ercole. We were told that these were the top restaurants, but even lunch on the beach was a pleasant surprise. The Argentario is definately a little known beach area and worth a trip if you're hot.
