Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nothing really special though, looks like Catania Gate or Messina Gate in Taormina, just smaller.
Not a place you should go specially to, but as I wrote you'll pass by there anyway when taking the cable car to get in the city.
Nice enough.

A traditional stone arched gateway that would have been the entrance to the town when it was surrounded by a wall. It is near to the cable-car from Trapani and the car/bus park. Interesting to see.

We looked out on this charming piece of history from our accommodation. Even though it is so old and narrow it is the main exit from this delightful small very old town. It actually marks the prestigious, historical entrance point. It leads to the first important site in the old town – Chiesa Matrice. Also from there uphill - Via Vittorio Emanuele leads to the town’s central point: Piazza Umberto I.

Parking area for residents fill square on either side. Relatively short but steep climb to main square, Piazza Loggia

The entrance immediately puts you in the picture of an ancient fortified city which I really like. I went back into time.

Porta Trapani is an old city gate, at the entrance to Erice, along with the city walls. It is in remarkable shape. Makes a nice photo. Nearby parking facilities and restrroms (cost .5 euro) just outside the city gate.

...is Porta Trapani. It's not a "porta" with a imposing presence (compared to many others in Europe), yet it is inviting.
Tip: There is a stall outside the porta that sells sightseeing tickets. You can get a city-wide ticket that allows you to visit most of the sites for a price of 12EUR (?...can't recall the exact price, but not much more). If you are going to spend a day or more, or are going to walk around the town, not not just up to the main town center area), this ticket is well worth it.

Near to the main visitor parking it is the nice entrance in the interesting village.
As many other "porta" in sicilia this is the wall around village entrance and it is sugested to take a look at the fortifications around.

We took the SP3 mountain "snake like" curvy road from Trapani to Erice , (You can also take the SP31) , and found a public parking lot right there at porta trapani .
This place is a good point to start your tour of beautiful town of Erice .

Very nice gate that marks the entrance into the medieval town. Picturesque place for a couple of pictures.
