I will never stop recommending this magnificent place of the highest naturalistic value. But, given the confusion and inaccuracies found in many reviews, I underline the need to find out well in advance about the route you intend to take, because there are more than one itineraries, with different characteristics and different difficulties (from the most basic walk to the most demanding via ferrata). It is therefore necessary to read up and perhaps ask for some additional information at the tourist office located in Ponte Felizon, the starting point of the itinerary.

It is within the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti D'Ampezzo which is very beautiful, wooded, and the trail begins at the easy level, goes to the medium and difficult. The trail is pretty and to get close to the waterfall has two viewpoints. If you want to see the waterfall more closely, without being the ferrate paths, you can go down a small steep trail in a wooden zigzag, it is quite short. To get closer to the base of the waterfall it is recommended to use climbing safety equipment, such as helmet, chair belt, etc. But from the last view you can see the waterfall very well.
If you arrive early, you will be able to park on the sidewalk before entering the park, but there are few cars. Otherwise, parking costs 8 euros and is spacious.
Inside the park there are other trails.

the "fanes waterfall" tour is a classic for this area, it can be done also with kids, actually there are 2 parts where you can walk under the 2 main waterfalls since there are 2 small iron ways (ferrate) that can be done also by kids from 7-8 years old, if you are properly equipped.
The interesting thing about this trip, is that you can decide, depending on the time you have, how much you want to see.
For the first waterfall, it took simply less than on hour (one way) and you don't need any particular equipment, to visit all the waterfalls, you need around 2.5 hours. If you want to do the 2 iron ways, allow around 4 hours. If you are really brave and you want to arrive at the Fanes valley (and it's the most amazing internal valley of the dolomites in my humble opinion) then it's around 6 hours.
To arrive, from Cortina goes to Fanes (SS 51, Km 109) and then after another Km turn left for "val di fanes" there's a parking at the end of the road.
from here follow the paved road, at the first crossroad turn left (follow path n°10), if you turn right you'll go to a great picnic area (5 minutes) or you will arrive after 40 minutes to a panoramic viewpoint. from there you have either to go back, or be properly equipped to reach the first iron way.
so let's turn left.. in around 40 minutes or less, following an easy trail, you'll arrive at the Outo bridge, with an incredible view. after few meters there's a pic nic area.
I suggest to follow the path on the right, it's the beginning of the first iron way, but you can reach the first waterfall, even if you are not equipped, it's not dangerous if you are cautious, just pay attention at the slippery rocks near the waterfall.
if you are not equipped, then you HAVE to turn back and return to the picknick area. If you have the standard equipments for iron roads, you will enjoy a small "ferrata" of around 40 minutes that will take you to another waterfall, and then will take you back to the first picnic area.
So this is the first part.. if you are tired, you can simply eat your sandwiches and go back home.
But I really suggest to keep going, after the picnic area keep right, you will have to walk for 50 meters and then you will find another sign for the "sentiero delle cascate e dei canyon" go for it... keep your kids near you because the first part is a steep path even if the sight view is breathless
. After the first part, the path is in the woods and it's quite easy.
you will see several waterfalls, at the end you can turn left and go back to cortina from an easy path, or turn right and arrive to the last waterfall, there is another iron way, very short but you must be equipped, if you want to cross the waterfall.
If you are really brave you can keep going and arrive to the fanes valley but it's another 2 hours and you still need to do 400meters of elevation.
but it's really worth, my suggestion is to book a room in one of the 2 mountain dews in the valley of fanes, and then continue your journey the day after either going to capanna alpina (great path) or down on the other valley.
In any case this trail is great because you can decide how long you wanna walk, depending on your skills or if you have small kids with you.

Good wide path for most of the route, al touch steeper and narrower towards the end. If you take any of the side paths be very careful as several end in via Ferrata and you need equipment. Otherwise a very easy walk with good views.

Even though this is a very easy ferrata and can be done even without the equipment, it offers great views and a nice trip. If you're a beginner you can do it to get used with the equipment.
Ahh, and you'll pass under two waterfalls - definitely a must do :).
It is easy accessible from Fiames - stop at the second parking on the left, as you come from Cortina and pass camping Olympia. At the top there is a belvedere point, where you can make an enjoyable picnic. Altogether, a relaxation day in the nature

Hike from the parking place is not hard and it takes about an hour. There are a few nice spots to observe the big waterfall. But if you wish to get closer I would recomand to do it with proper safety equipment! There is a short but at some parts steep ferrata which goes all the way to the base of the waterfall.

Easy hike to get to the falls, scenery is very nice, but if someone is on tight time schedule, visit tre cime, passo giau and lake sorapis first as they are superior to this attraction in my opinion. Overall It is worth the hike and visit, but not the best dolomites can offer.

What a great walk this was. The walk is about 2hr, less if you get a riggle on, but hey. It's a beautiful walk/hike. There is so much to see on this walk. You pass many photographic spots. I undestand there are different walks to the waterfall, one where you can walk behind it, or the one we took, to see the top. One thing you should know about, is the little walk aroung a single, very narrow path. Most of the people we saw secured themselves with propper climbing gear. We had nothing. So we very carefully held on and crept round. We wish we had known this, as many people will not walk on the little path(hell of a drop) because it is not for the faint hearted. So if you do not like hights, dont do it, otherwise enjoy.

this place is good for people who look for a relax day in mountains or very light hiking. it offers a "drop" of adventure with the waterfalls - the trails goes right behind the falling water which is nice. the hike with waterfall also includes an easy ferrata but it is optional and can be avoided
there are certainly more attractive places to see in Cortina area but this one is also good if you want an active chill day :)

Waterfalls Fanes are situate in the same valley , much like a Kenyon . After a brief walk is approaching the river Travenanzes . Once at the first waterfall , passing a narrow passage and exposed but very safe , you can take a shower under a waterfall! to try!

Buonasera a tutti,
