We visited the Villas San Marco and Arianna. Both are wonderful and have well preserved frescoes. We took the train from Sorrento and got off at Castellamare di Stabia. If you can walk, fine, but we took a taxi from the station to the Villa...More

Excellently preserved ruins from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79A.D. Due to the fact that the discovery was within the last century, the colours are still very bright on the walls. Nice setting with a great view..and it's free to visit.

Free entry! undeservedly not very known archeological side, but worth seeing because of its well preserved floor mosaics and wall paintings

This Roman Villa (1st Century AD) is well worth a visit, it is a stand alone building, so nothing like visiting Pompeii. However the condition of the building is wonderful and you get a real feeling of what it would have been like when lived...More

Worth exploring to realize the impact in 79AD. Most people go to Pompeii but this is also worth a visit,

A beautiful villa with stunning vistas over Castellamare di stabia, a must visit. This was just 800m down the road from our hotel, so we decided to visit and I am so glad we did.

There are two villas open to the public in Castellamare. Although they can be a little tricky to find just keep going uphill! The location provides fantastic views across the Bay of Naples. The villas were very quiet when I visited (early in the morning),...More

There are no taxis that I know of, and practically NO ONE in Castellamare di Stabiae speaks English. As Mentioned, if you read my review, you'll find your answer. All it cost us was the bus fare.
