It is pointless to search for a connection between the plot of the famous ancient Greek myth of Icarus and Agrigento. It is missing. Similarly, there is no deep meaning why is Icarus without legs? The answer is one. Because the author is a Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj. He lived in Italy for a long time and his sculptures are more numerous here than in his native Poland. In 3 days, we met him twice in Agrigento and near the Pisa train station, where a similar man with severed limbs is lying. Mitoraj`s sculptures always lacking something. There may not be legs, arms, or the back of the head. And there can only be legs. Here in Agrigento, Icarus is missing his feet. Mitoraj left the main body - bronze penis. There is something to hold on to when taking a photo. It is necessary to observe safety precautions. The hot Sicilian sun heats the penis, too. You can get a burn and traces of acquaintance with the work of Igor Mitoraj will remind you of themselves for a long time.

Beautiful statue. Well located opposite the Temple of Concord…. Reflects Sicily's Greek past. It is inedible that the site is located right in the middle of the city of Agrigento which is not really a beautiful city...

It was a pleasant surprise to find this bronze statue, created by the renowned sculptor Igor Mitoraj, positioned in front of the Temple of Concordia. Itis an appropriate location since In mythology, Agrigento was founded by Daedalus and his son Icarus following their flight from Crete. I enjoyed photogaphing this artwork and to further research the subject matter on my return as well as processing my final image as an implied ode to the creator.

Valle dei Templi is an amazing site, but I fail to understand the purpose of this statue here. There is no information posted and people will easily be deceived thinking it is of historic value which it certainly isn't.

In front of the Temple of Concordia, you can admire the statue of Icarus, donated by the Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj. The statue represents the Fall of Icarus, who disobeyed his father Daedalus, he flew too close to the sun, burned his wings of wax and fell into the Mediterranean. in this statue, as a result of the fall, the wings are broken. This is a modern piece of art but it nevertheless is superbly executed and fits in perfectly with its surroundings. It reminded me of that classic film Jason and the Argonauts and the mighty Talos!

I get the theme of the statue - fallen hero Icarus but the statue does not do justice to the setting or the sculptor - but it is for each to make up his/her own mind

Worth the 12 euro admission, but you will never do it in 2 hours. We parked in the lower lot and took the 3 euro/person taxi to the top and walked back down to the lower parking lot. If you park in the upper lot and walk down I think you will want to take a taxi back to your car at the end of your visit. Lots of photo opportunities.

This is a modern statue which doesn't belong here and is completely out of place. For those interested in the artist's work, an exhibition of his statues is currently on display at Pompeii where it looks annoyingly intrusive.
