This temple is considered the best Doric temple of the Greeks in the world. The location in the valley on a hill magnifies its beauty. The driver dropped us off quite close so the walk was short and without much difficulty. As in any archaeological site, footwear must be comfortable and with grip. There is a modern sculpture of Icarus on the esplanade.

The Temple of Concordia is the Valley of the Temple's star attraction, so it's not like you can miss it. The Temple of Concordia alone would make the visit worth it, but it just so happens it's flanked by other amazing temples, so be prepared to be overwhelmed. I have not been to Greece, but these temples are supposedly far better preserved than the ones there, so if you want to see ancient Greek temples in amazing condition, go to Sicily, not just Greece.

This well-preserved temple and church is why you come to the Valley of the Temples. It stands on a hill overlooking the sea and modern Agrigento. It is almost a miracle that the temple has survived the test of time, extreme weather conditions and Italian mismanagement.

The Temple of Concord is one of the best preserved Doric temples in the world. All 34 columns are still in place along with architrave and pediments. Built in the Fifth Century BC, the temple was preserved partly because it was converted to a Christian basilica in the Fourth Century AD and later restored to it's classical form in 1748. The temple was named by Tommaso Fazello, a historian who died in 1570. He found a Latin inscription nearby with the word Concord included. The inscription apparently had no connection with the temple or the deity to which it was originally dedicated.

The temple is splendidly situated so that visitors look up at it from all vantage points...making it one of the more photogenic buildings in Sicily. The color of the local stone is tawny yellow in the sunlight, a marked contrast with the brilliant blue of the sky and Mediterranean below. I stood in awe of this remarkable temple for a long time.

Don't miss it.

This temple is the logo of UNESCO world heritage, and it is easy to see why. It is magnificent, and the approach along a wide promenade creates a stunning vision to this large and wonderfully preserved and restored temple. One can look at the temple from 3 angles but not get close enough to climb, which is good because it helps to keep it in such good condition. I could not stop taking pictures.

Temples are really nice, when you consider how old are they you will be impressed by the work done too keep the place in good conditions. Interesting few hours walk from ‘temple-to-temple’. But price of the parking and entrance ticket it in my opinion bit too high.
