- wein0422Berkeley, California51 contributionsGreat restaurant. Good WinePretty nice place. We didn't spend as much time as we'd like. It was too hot to really take advantage of the place. the golf cart tour of the museum was the plan but we were too hot. We ate at the Brazilian restaurant. It was fabulous.Thank you so much for your visit at Château La Coste. Some days can be very warm to visit, we hope you will come back one day to do the visit.Written 18 December 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 October 2023
- jcbolayLausanne, Switzerland766 contributionsVisit a fantastic experience!I didn’t know this famous vineyard, Chateau la Coste. And don’t know the history. But the visit is just fabulous if you like art and architecture. You will font there buildings made by the most famous contemporary architects, sculptures and art galleries. If interested, you can walk between 1 to 3 hours and … just enjoy the place. With restaurants and wine shop. Just fabulous and only 15 km from Aix en Provence! A wonderful discovery for me and an excellent tip for you.Hello, Thank you so much for your visit and your review online. - Steph D23 contributionsSpend a fabulous half day at a chateau in ProvenceThis was a wonderful recommendation for an all round experience. We ate at the very good restaurant Tadeo Ando, had a wine cellar tour and tasting with the very clever Mathilde and walked the sculpture tour. Glorious place. We enjoyed the wines very much.Thank you so much for your wonderful recommendation! We are delighted that you spent a fabulous half day with us, between the tasting at the Tadao Ando restaurant, your visit to the Chais, and the art and architecture walk. It's an honour to know that you enjoyed our wines. We look forward to welcoming you back for an equally enjoyable experience.Written 15 April 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 November 2023
- Irishtraveller24Dublin, Ireland89 contributionsAn absolute must. A very special placeOur hotel organised a private tour of the winery with a tasting afterwards. Words can’t really describe what a wonderful experience we had. It was a truly a special day from the weather and the setting just a start. A very special thank you must go to our host, Patricia, no not from Ireland, but Romania. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, passion for wine and overall professionalism was something to behold. A note to management, look after this lady, she is very special. We went way over our expected time, but the 8 of us just loved listening to Patricia. After the tour we went straight back into the shop and ordered plenty of wine which is currently winging its way to Ireland, we can’t wait. We then went to the Provençal restaurant and had a very pleasant lunch. The winery is very special and huge credit must go to the owner and the team. You have created something special and are continuing to invest in the property. I have to return. What fantastic feedback ! We are absolutely delighted that your visit was so memorable and rewarding. Patricia is indeed a valuable member of our team, and we are delighted to know that she was able to make your experience so special. We take note of your kind recommendation and will continue to support our exceptional team. We are happy to hear that you also enjoyed our food and wine, and we hope you enjoy the wines you ordered. - Birgitta E10 contributionsA recommendable destination in ProvenceWe stayed one night at the auberge which included a two-hour guided tour of the premises. We totally enjoyed it all; the interaction between nature and the arts eg art and architecture, the friendliness, the comfort and happiness at the estate. Choice of two restaurants for dinner and a bar for lunch. So intetesting with the big wine production, biodynamically produced. It sounds like a really rewarding and complete experience! We are delighted that you enjoyed our estate and had a pleasant stay at Auberge La Coste. The whole property is an architecture masterpiece, including art galleries, sculptures, hotels, restaurants and of course a vineyard. We spent a few hours here but could have spent much more. Worth the price of admission. Highly recommend! It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Château La Coste! - Arizonapopi1Florence, Italy916 contributionsAllow 3 hours for the art walk, consider a golf-cart tour, lunch is good but pricy. This review is about the art walk and lunch on the terrace which we have done twice. To do the art walk and not be worn out, you probably need to allow three hours. There is no water nor toilets on the walk, but both are available at the center. In our view, the art walk is very interesting with good explanations of each installation. The walking path is safe and a guided tour is available. The price of admission is very reasonable. It may be possible to have them carry you to the top of the walk on a golf cart. It also may be possible to have a guided tour with the golf cart. After the walk, we had lunch on the terrace which takes no reservations. We arrived about 11:45 and had no problem being seated. Lunch for four people was about €230. The menu was primarily fruit and vegetables with the ham being the only meat we saw. The melon and ham dish is large and can easily be shared. The onion tart was for us OK. The gazpacho soup was very good. And can be ordered by itself. Service was excellent, ambience was excellent, highly recommend the entire experience.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 August 2024
- Henri GPurmerend, The Netherlands126 contributions‘Spanning 200 hectares, it boasts a wealth of history, and a wine-making tradition which dates back to Roman times’.We come here almost every holiday we spent in The Provence, because of different reasons. Every year new works of art are added to the collection. So every time we discover these new pieces. A second reason is the beautiful walk through the vineyards and the woods with beautiful views where the artworks are exibited. So use suitable shoes for the walk that will keep you occupied for 2,5 to 3 hours. Of the permanent collection we especially like ‘Rail Train’ by Bob Dylan, ‘La Chapelle’, ‘Multiplied Resistance Screened’, ‘Meditation Bell’, ‘Mater Earth’ and ‘Drop’. But the other works are also very interesting to experience. You can also write a wish and hang it in one of the wish trees by Yoko Ono. A third reason for visiting this magnificent place is to have lunch in one of the restaurants after the walk accompanied with one of the lovely rosé wines they produce at the estate. If you like it, you can even buy some at the store. This year also the famous Damien Hirst stages a major exhibition at Château La Coste spanning the 500-acre estate and its five exhibition pavilions.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2024
- Flavio31 contributionsAbsolutely OutstandingWe are staying over next year after the wonderful lady at Reception ( Julia ?) explained all and the rooms are all exquisite. We went on the superb Art Walk ( simply outstanding to find so much exquisite world class art so magnificently curated and displayed ) - it’s a long walk but buggie options . Then we had lunch at Tadao Ando - we have been 10 days in Provence , mainly in Aix and the meal here at Tadao Ando was by far the best we’ve had . Our wonderful Manager /Sommelier Theo was frankly ‘ class in a glass ‘ and so knowledgeable and enthusiastic on everything at Château La Coste . We are from Scotland and Dorset - travel regularly and have to say that for the discerning traveler , epicurean and art lover this place is a dream come true .Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2024

My friends & I have visited Château La Coste this week, which is indeed a beautiful landscape to admire Art installations within a vineyard.
Big disappointments by the service:
1) Even if we were a group of 8, no support attended to the tour we could go through and the main exhibitions details.
2) we have paid full entrance amount, when the main exhibition gallery was fully closed. Waiter from the Bar within the venue, told us that we should have not paid for the entrance ( and most visitors did not).
When a such beautiful installations are made around a vineyard, we expect a certain level of service, and, alignment on fees.

Dear Sg_Sev,
Thank you for choosing to visit Château la Coste with your friends in August.
We are surprised by your comments about the services.
You can participate to guided tour everyday at 10am or 5pm in French or ask for a private guided tour in advance and we do give maps and explanations to all visitors before they go on the tour.
The exhibitions are opened everyday from 1pm to 5pm, indeed one of the exhibition space is free.
However the art and architecture tour is 15€ and we do check the tickets.
We will make sure to inform our restaurant team so they don’t misguide the visitors.
It appears we failed on communicating to your group the proper informations, please apologize.
We will be really pleased to invite you to come back and join a guided tour, please contact me by email to organize it. Marie Rozet, press@chateau-la-coste.com
Best regards.

Great Art experience in a lovely vineyard….
This is an amazing place. 40€ for a family ticket to wander round some truely amazing sculptures and small galleries with exhibitions. Staff are super helpful (it rained on our visit and staff were there to give lifts on their carts!). Allow approximately 3 hours to see most of the exhibits on good paths with reasonable shade (bit of uphill involved). there is a lovely cafe area and wine tasting if you fancy food and drink after your art experience.

A very interesting experience. There are several restaurants and exhibition halls scattered around the area. The entrance ticket is 15 euros and for that you can walk around all day, and there is a lot to see - installations by great international artists. The entire area is explored in about two hours. We visited on a Saturday, there were a lot of people in the restaurants (it's good to have a reservation).

Our visit to Chateau La Coste was a surprise gift and turned into a wonderful revelation: the grounds are sprinkled with art and architecture around the winery. It is an easy taxi ride from Aix — about 30 euros — and is worth the time to explore. Don’t rush it: we did a walk before lunch, had a very good meal at Restaurant Tadao Ando (this is French, there are Argentine and Italian options) and then a winery tour (cost was 15 euros) and another walk. We arrived at around 11, left at 5 and ran out of time to see every artwork. The walking trails head up-hill so be prepared. We visited in winter when some galleries were closed and there were very few visitors. We loved it. The appeal is in the art or the wine — luckily for us we enjoyed both.

We booked to do the English wine tasting tour on Sunday afternoon. The tour started and we’re taken to see the whole process from getting the grapes to how their processed through to the bottling stage. We got to rinse how the whole process works. Afterwards we done some wine tasting and we’re given more information about the various wines produced. Afterwards we enjoyed a drink on the terraced area and explored the grounds some more. You could easily spend most of the day here if you do the art exhibition as well.
Plenty of on site parking and some underground parking as well. Couple
Of different restaurants and bars to visit.
We got an Uber taxi from Aix both ways which cost around 25 euro each way.

This place is magical. It’s pure authentic and elegant from the decor, to the staff, to the food and relaxing experience. I stayed to restore and recharge for the new year. The bath tub in the studio was divine and calming. The bed linens wrap around you like cashmere.
The food is of the highest standard of excellent and the gallette de roi the best I’ve ever tasted. The true treasure of this place in addition to the wine, the art, the spa, the food, the elegant decor and service is Mara McKillen and her team/family. The best of the best in service. Mara made me feel like a part of an exclusive family and so did her team of whom I know all after 1 day on a first name basis.
I can’t wait to go back to this home away from home where I brainstorm my best ideas is serene bliss.

Highly recommended day out in Provence. We arrived in time for lunch then we did the incredible Art and Architecture walk through the sculptures.
It took us about 3 hours as we took our time exploring everything. The guide provided a really nice, easy to follow map and recommended some things not to miss - we were particularly glad we did not miss the Bob Dylan sculpture that was not yet on the map. We did not have time to see everything but we really enjoyed our peaceful walk and the setting.
We didn't do the wine tasting - I wound up buying a bottle to take home that i didn't like, so I probably should have tasted first.
There's ample parking in the outdoor lot and the parking garage.
Our only feedback would be to add restrooms somewhere on the property on the walk. Two and a half to three hours is a long time for anyone to wait and when it's hot you want to drink lots of water.

We enjoyed our visit a lot. It’s all very tastefully done and clearly aiming at the populist high end with sculptures commissioned from several celebrities (Yoko Ono, Bob Dylan etc) as well as celebrated artists like Andy Goldsworthy and Tracey Emin. Inexplicably the place seemed to be staffed with posh English girls who were all very lovely but I’d very much compare the experience to a much larger Serpentine Gallery so it fits!
We had lunch at the cafe which was very high quality but with prices to match (20 euros for a slice of quiche and salad, glass of wine starting at 10 euros). Although not a long walk round the trail - It’s not a massively easy walk round in the heat and definitely not suited for those with mobility issues). The views were wonderful and this makes for a lovely day out.

We visited for lunch in the restaurant where we spent €120 and then we did the full winery tour and tasting which we enjoyed. So we’ll our visit was going well and I’d had a lovely day, we were about to buy a case of wine. We wanted to go and see the vines which we had been hearing all about before we purchased the wine and left, suddenly an incredibly rude and officious woman jumped out of the trees and asked for a ticket - a ticket? I have already spent so much money here today? No I was not allowed to walk anywhere I had not paid to go to. She told us to leave and I was so upset I left immediately without buying any wine. So rather than spending hundreds of euros on wine you would rather I paid €15 for a ticket to walk out of the designated area? I have never heard of such a thing in a vineyard, what happened to welcoming French vineyards where you could pop in and visit. My day was completely ruined, what a disgrace. Avoid this place.

Hello, thank you for your visit and your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the lunch and the tour of our cellars. However, we're very sorry to hear that your day was spoiled afterwards. Indeed, the tour is not free, as it includes over 40 works of Art & Architecture designed for Château La Coste by Artists & Architects such as Renzo Piano, Oscar Niemeyer, Tracey Emin, Sean Scully, Ai Wei Wei and many others. It is unfortunate that this information was not communicated to you in a correct and considerate manner, as it does not reflect the level of service we strive to provide. Your frustration is completely understandable, and we sincerely apologize for this disappointing experience. We hope you'll come and see us again

We chose the private guided tour of the works of the castle, lasting 3 hours. There were 4 of us, with a guide, Estelle, absolutely exceptional with a perfect knowledge of the works and the artists! We haven't seen the time pass and our heads are full of stories and anecdotes to fully anchor our memories!
The visit continued with lunch at the Villa (Hélène Darroze), where the dishes enchanted us and the advice of the sommelier (Maxime) was really relevant and in total agreement with our culinary choices.
Thank you to all these teams for this complete immersion in art, culture and gastronomy!
What fun!! Well done !!

Hi, we are group of 5 and would be staying in Marseille for a few days in September. We would like to visit Aix and then come over to Chateau La Coste. We were planning to take an Uber to the Chateau from Aix. Do we need to arrange for taxi in advance? How do we do that? None of us are from France.
We would also like to do wine tasting, stroll around and sit at the terrace restaurant to grab a bite. We are not particularly looking for any tours but want to experience the Chateau and Provence. Do we need reservations for either of those? I see you have a 2pm tour of the cellar in English. We may do that if possible.
Thank you!

Hi,
Thank you for your message. We are looking forward to welcoming you in few days.
You don't have to book an Uber in advance, you can take it directly in Aix-en-Provence. Also you will find a taxi space at La Rotonde.
You can do a wine tour and an Art and Architecture Tour in our domain.
The wine tour include a visit of our cellars followed by a wine tasting. You have to book it in advance on our website, and it is everyday at 2 pm in english.
For our Art and Architecture Tour, you can directly come at our Art Centre and buy your tickets to visit on your own. Or you can book a guided tour on our website.
Hope to meet you !

There is a gorgeous hotel on the site above the museum--we had lunch there and there are accommodations. It seems pretty luxurious, however. If you want something more modest, I'm sure the nearby town has some B&B's--we saw small signs indicating a few.

Boa tarde,

Which is nicer for long lunch cafe or restaurant ? What's a good day this week .

Hello,
It really depends on the atmosphere you are looking for, the Tadao Ando restaurant (booking advised) is more like a proper restaurant, offering starters, main dishes and dessert while La Terrasse is more casual with dishes to share.
Regarding the days, we are open everyday so it's really as you wish.
