Our family of 2 adults and 2 children (12 years) visited in early September. The Victorian tour taken by Jaxom was great! He was a wonderful, informative tour guide, who obviously knew his stuff! Our girls were kept engaged with the tour, and we all learnt the history of the Victorian era around this area. The mine tour underground was... More

We visited Dolaucothi Goldmines with our 2 and 5 year old. We ate in the cafe, the menu was simple but good quality food. Staff were friendly and warm. The panning for gold caused a lot of excitement for the children (and my husband) and was a great inclusive activity for all ages. We only did the short tour, partly... More

Typical winding country lanes to get there, Its just a short walk from the car park to the reception to purchase tickets, we managed to get there just before the first Mine tour, once you have paid to get in go straight across to the kiosk opposite & get yourself booked on one of the Mine tours, Like I said... A group of 6 (3 X couples), thoroughly enjoyed our morning here - however, you could certainly spend a large part of your day here, not just morning/afternoon - we took part in the Roman Tour, very interesting, our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our tour ended with beautiful views on top of the mining site. Lots of other... More

This is an interesting place to visit - gold from Romans to Victorians. The guides are well informed and add humour to keep your fully engaged. It is set into idyllic surrounding particularly in the autumn with the trees ablaze with colour. The tours can also be undertaken independently if you don't like tours.

My husband, son and I arrived at the mines around midday and had time to do both the Roman and Victorian mine tours. (We also fitted in bacon sandwiches and later tea and cake in the cafe!). We would advise doing both tours if you can, as it gives you the full picture of the history of the mines and... More

Visited here with a group of family and friends - 6 of us in total ranging from 4 months to 38 years! Had a lovely light lunch in the cafe and amazing puddings. The crumble and the caramel apple pie were gorgeous as was the icecream served with it. We then went on to get our hard hats and lights... More

These gold mines go back to Roman times and you can go underground into part of the old Roman mine. The best bit is to go into the more recent mine and see how miners dug into the gold veins and extracted the mineral. There is a fine display on the surface of the old gold mining equipment and it... excellent outdoor tour and walk of Roman Mine. Tour Guide kept our interest and we intend to return for the underground tour of the Victorian Mine. You can Pan for gold which is fun.
