It's changed, not eating there. Deplorable welcome, we have the Impression of inconveniencing. "A grutas" are not happy to do the season in piódāo and besides very expensive for snack. Shabby, otherwise very nice village to see. It is better to eat at "vide da cabeca" at the beginning of the valley.

One of the most iconic "aldeias" in Portugal. It is definitely worth a visit, although the access is not easy :)
The views are great. The place has some cafés and restaurants.
Nearby, there are two other interesting places - Chas da Egua and Foz da Egua.

The whole ride up in the mountain area in snowy time of Dec. was beautiful.
We stop almost every curve to take pictures of the scenic view.
And once we arrive to the village ( coming from Arganil via small local roads ) the
view was absolutely great.

This is a small, historic village set deep in the Portuguese mountains. While a pretty little town, getting there is an effort. Much of the road is two lanes with no barricades next to the very steep dropoffs. Once there, there's a neat old church to see, but the place has also been pretty commercialized too. Unless you just want to an adventurous drive, there are other places to see that would be easier to get to. If you go, plan to spend about two to three hours.

This is one of the most famous historic villages in Portugal. Very well preserved and with a magic athmosphere.
The road to get there is full of curves but in fair to good conditions.
You can see the landscape as you drive through (unfortunately it was severelly destroyed by 2017 wild fires that hit the center of the country).
The villagge escaped almost by a miracle and it keeps its beauty!

Piodão is a protected village classified as an historical village in Portugal.
It's located in the Coimbra district, and in the Arganil municipality, in the middle of the Açor mountain.

To me one of the most beautiful villages of Portugal!!

The best way to arrive there is to drive along the road IC6, after, the national road N17, then the N230 until the village Vide and from here taking the way to Piodão just few kms away.

It's worth going to see those lovely schist houses with blue frame doors and windows.

You can park your car in the entrance of the village in front of the surprisingly white church and next to a tourism office!

This was my first xisto village and so was very special to see the beauty of the place. However it was very tiny and had lots of tourists and you began to feel a bit claustrophobic. Prices were a bit high too - but I have since discovered that this is very usual in xisto villages - which is a shame.

We visited this location with our two kids (4 and 6) and they loved the experience. We explored the village and surroundings with the amazing small schist houses. It was an adventure for them. Finally, we tried to go for a swim on the river beach. Although the water was limpid and attractive, it was very cold and we weren't able to dive but it was very refreshing since it was very hot. It was a very nice place to see. For those who enjoy exploring trails and big walks on the nature it is a paradise.

On holidays by the north of Portugal we decided to go there. Our experience was very good. Not expensive. Very good and typical food from that region. So ..we recommend you all to take a walk by the stone streets of Piódão. We loved it :) !
